I’m wondering about some of the benefits and disadvantages of migrating from cloud to matter hub to use my devices with Google home. I use a lot of voice control in my home as well as some additional physical buttons. No dashboards. Me thinks it would probably be better to have a local connection however I’m not sure if there’s a good reason for it or if I’m just being pendantic. Will it speed up my commands?
Also will this work to bridge all my devices to something like a switchbot 3? Is the integration from Riddix reliable enough to be the primary “hub” for everything. Sorry if my post is a bit all over. I’m just trying to convince myself of why I need this or if I just want it? I believe I’m going to keep cloud anyways, I have no problem supporting HA however I can. What’s everyones thoughts?
Not sure if it is better or worse to use Matter vs NabuCasa cloud.
It might be faster, because you actually skip the NabuCasa cloud and the HA core and go directly to the Matter server.
What I do know is that there is a Matter Hub for HA that makes HA able to take an entity in HA and emulate it as a Matter device (if such one exist in the Matter protocol. Not all device types do).
Make sure you get a maintained one. Some are abandoned, but will probably hit high in the search results because they have been around for long, while the newer ones will be last in the search results. Search on GitHub directly is the best way.
I switch to Matterbridge It’s a little more complex then Matter Hub to setup but has been rock solid. Had odd issues with Matterhub and when support stopped I switched. The speed difference is night and day better than cloud. All interactions are local. Matter Hub was equally as quick though.
