The notification concern is valid, but the solution is straightforward and doesn’t require duplicating the entire infrastructure.
NabuCasa could implement a notification system independent from their main AWS infrastructure:
External monitoring (Pingdom or UptimeRobot) checking availability every 1-5 minutes from multiple geographic locations. Cost: $10-50/month.
Email notification system hosted on a different cloud than AWS - SendGrid on GCP or Mailgun on Azure. Subscriber database in a separate location. Cost: $50-100/month.
Push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google infrastructure, independent from AWS). Free up to 10 million messages monthly, companion app likely already uses this.
Public status page on Cloudflare Workers or Atlassian Statuspage, automatically updated via webhook from monitoring. Cost: $20-100/month.
When monitoring detects unavailability, it automatically triggers email and push notifications, plus updates the status page.
Total cost for this setup: roughly $180-270/month - I believe this is minimal overhead for NabuCasa’s budget, eliminating situations like yesterday’s. Users get notified within minutes instead of wasting time troubleshooting on their end.

So why would Nabu Casa spend money on such a problem?
I’m currently having trouble connecting to HA via remote access again, it started yesterday.
The weird thing is, after several retrys it sometimes works again, with everything loading very slowly though. Notifications come with a delay of 5-10 minutes.
Direct connection works fine and restarting HA didn’t change anything.
A quick google search shows that many people are having problems currently.
Not shure why you say that, downdetector does not show a lot of problems and you’re replying on a three month old thread. For me it is working fine, but it might be a regional problem. It could also be related to your lan. Have you checked this:
Yes down for me also in UK, to tell you the truth since January update it keeps losing connection and now I cant log in with nabu at all.
Have to use my VPN.
