Native support for pcf8583 as a counter

Hi HA’ers,

Does anyone know if there are any plans to native add support for the pcf8583 as a counter? For example flow counter through i2c?

To be open, i am in proces to test a local external package with a simple pcb of my own (with that IC)

Esphome has Generic I²C device component. Few lines of lambda could be all you need to read the counter.
