… it can’t have to rely on home assistant. It can operate with HA, but still needs to turn the lights on and off and dim when HA isn’t available.
I need a switch that has a dimmer, an on / off, and ideally a way to change colour but that’s not a deal breaker.
Not removable.
Not battery powered.
Not wifi.
Not a hidden module.
Not a binary toggle eg every non smart switch.
Not dependent on HA to operate.
It can depend on a hub provided the lights can be as well, so that only the hub is needed to let the switch talk to the lights.
But that’s as dependent as it can get. The switch has to always work. Always.
It’s strange that everyone puts up with replacing simple reliable devices with ones of extraordinary complexity that become reliant on so many external systems continuously working.
There’s no reason such a switch couldn’t be created. One that uses mains power (+neutral); has controls for on and off and up and down light levels. And talks to a hub or controller (wifi, zwave, zigbee, RF etc). And if it loses connection, can operate as a dumb light switch and cut power to the lights.
You need to tell us where in the world/country you are (or more precisely where you want to install it).
I suspect you are not in the US but for that region the closest you get is properly either Lanbon L8 or L9.
You are saying that changing color is optional. I assume that implies you also have smart bulbs?
For both L8 and L9 you can control smart bulbs via HA ie turn on/off, dim and change colors. It does however rely on WiFi as Lanbon communicates with HA with WiFi. The smart bulb can be any protocol as long as HA can talk to them.
In the case of no WiFi and or HA you can still toggle the light on and off assuming that your bulbs default to light when power is applied to them.
In case you have “regular” dimmable bulbs there is a version of L8 with dimming capabilities.
It does, if you’re in the EU. It’s called the Aqara H2EU dimmer. You’ll have to use dumb dimmable bulbs if you want it to still operate when HA is down, which means that the colour option is out.
