The problem is that I’m not very good at linux stuff. If I start up File editor, I don’t know how to get this file loaded so I can remove the invalid entries. Can someone point me in right direction?
Here be dragons.
Who pointed you towards doing this and why?
What invalid entries are you removing?
File Editor may not achieve what you want as it has certain access restraints, mainly to prevent neophytes from self injury.
@CliffordW Yea… @IOT7712 ain’t kidding. You can really muck stuff up if you go messing around in the core files. Something as simple as a missing bracket in the syntax can render your system kaput. Please answer the questions proposed.
BTW @IOT7712, the way you worded that slayed me. Thank you! I needed a good laugh.
The spelling on [Need to cleanup some entires] was the first concern. I’m worried malicious AI or YouBoob has been here and given the fatal “RUN FDISK FORMAT C:” type instructions to fix a ditzy “I’m missing a document” question.
No context. I’m also wondering why the question hasn’t been asked where the editing solution was initially offered?
Even -I- think twice before editing core config files.
The right direction would be to not alter the file, you will 100% break HA if you do!
I installed an integration called whatisgram. It didn’t work, and I uninstalled it. Now it keeps throwing up errors in the log file, and when I try to install another Whatsapp integration I get Whatisgram errors. At this point I am thinking I need to reinstall Whatisgram, and then uninstall it again and see if it actually cleans up after itself.
So I am at a loss. I am willing to listen to any suggestions.
Thanks for the extra background information.
Maybe let’s fix the correct problem rather than fatally disembowelling HomeAssistant?
Please list your errors [in forum formatted </> format]
Here’s the logfile entry:
Logger: homeassistant.components.websocket_api.commands
Source: components/websocket_api/commands.py:670
integration: Home Assistant WebSocket API (documentation, issues)
First occurred: 7:39:32 AM (1 occurrence)
Last logged: 7:39:32 AM
Unable to get manifest for integration whatsigram_messenger: Integration 'whatsigram_messenger' not found.
So you don’t have to touch the internals of the operating system. Good. Just a pesky third party integration hanging around.
Do you have File Editor installed? Look for a directory/folder called “whatsigram_messenger” under “homeassistant/components”. Does it exist? If yes, what files are located there?
You can also do this from another computer using Samba.
I have a /homeassistant/custom_components
Scrolling through there doesn’t give anything with a ‘Whats’ in the name.
I have a /homeassistant/custom_components/HACS but not much relevant to the problem there.
Fine. No residual files lurking. (Note we’re only using File Editor to look, not modify anything.)
You have possibly hidden or ignored the whatsigram_messenger HACS addon/integration as described in Error messages about a custom integration I've removed already · Issue #158902 · home-assistant/core · GitHub rather than deleted it, and will need to select “show ignored integrations” at the
/config/integrations/dashboard panel to display it again and then click the “Stop Ignoring” button on that dialog.
This should allow the system to cleanly fix itself up without any drastic editing.
As described, it may take HomeAssistant a little while to update the system pointers and manifest, and it may be prudent to restart from the system screen by do a full power down and restart (do this restart twice while allowing the system to fully start up in between) to finally rid yourself of the pesky warning message. Don’t restart by pulling the power - do it from the menu so the files can be correctly updated without corruption.
Let us know how you go.
I see here I have two disabled Whatisgram entries. There is an option to delete them, is that the right course of action? (I thought yes, but considering I am asking for help I thought it best not to assume anything at this point).
Bingo! Seize the opportunity! Nuke them and gently do a system restart to lock the changes safely in place. Check on restart they really have been excorcised from your system. If so, mark my previous post as the solution for forum completeness.
We can collectively put our rosary beads away, safe in the knowledge you didn’t need to manually alter vital system files.
Please go back to whoever (or whatever) suggested to you to edit the files and issue a precautionary word of warning there for other people that may be tempted to go down that risky path.
I was finally able to completely remove the whatisgram integration. No more log errors. Thanks for your help.
