I have done some searching and the links for the old API are now being closed. Nest has posted that the API is being retired. I am unsure if this will affect me on my old automation system. HA docs mention applying for a developer account but that is now closed.
My Nest stat runs on a different home automation system but I would like to be able to use it in HA. Either simultaneously on both systems or move it to HA.
The stat runs on the old Works With Nest API. As far as I can tell I have a single access token and I do not believe it ever changes.
Thanks for any help on this. I sure would like to be able to use this expensive device in the manner I purchased it for.
I have several Wireless Tags for monitoring tempeature etc.and they integrate with HA very well (apart from the fact that they depend on the internet).
At the moment they are still part of the old “Works with Nest” universe and the controller treats my Nest thermostat as just another tag. In HA I have automations to switch from Home to Away when I go out, for example, and the thermostat appears on my Lovelace floor plans. You can still use the Nest app as usual.
You can find more details on their website.
I should add that I have had this running untouched for several years, but their app still has an option to associate the controller with an old-style nest account. Also works with Honeywell, Hue, IFTTT, Alexa etc, etc. You probably wouldn’t have to buy any tags, just the controller.
Thanks for the reply.
That’s an interesting idea. Are you using the Nest integration and do you get a nice dash for your Nest ?
I think if it fully integrates the thermostat I would consider it but it is a tough call. Buy more cloud based stuff or buy a ZWave thermostat and own it. I had recently bought a couple Google hubs to use CATT to cast HA dashboards to and got shafted on that as well.
No. The thermostat appears as a Wireless Tag entity - and only a sensor at that - so you can have temperature/humidity/movement readings. I use the Nest app itself to schedule temperature changes and IFTTT for home/away, plus Alexa sometimes. Not what you’re looking for I suspect!
Well I was hoping for full integration. I have a back door way of getting the sensor data into HA from my other automation application. This is nice but I have not yet implemented control of the settings. I have a feeling it is a one-way street.
