New activity view no longer shows enough detail

Until a recent update, I had a card on my homepage that showed the activity for a relay, and it showed the automation that triggered it, and the device that triggered the automation.

In short - which radiator triggered the boiler, and when. Very useful!

Screenshot of the original:

After an update some time in the recent past, it now looks like this:

Which is much less useful. Is there a way to get the old view back, or at least some semblance of it?

This happened in the last release 2026.7 and is supposed to be a much cleaner view. You can click on each entry to get the previous details.
I'm not a fan of all these extra clicks to get to my data.

tbh I don't even see it with extra clicks.

Clicks on the tile don't seem to do anything.

When I go to the actual activity tab I get this

Which is better but in my situation doesn't help, because it still doesn't tell you what triggered the automation.

If I click through and click 'details' it still doesn't show:

This is a major problem for "events", because these are not found in the full activity log. In the browser GUI, it's possible to hover your mouse pointer over the record to get a pop-up with the full description, but in the companion app, you'll have to copy + select-all then paste it into another input box to see the information. It's awfully unwieldy, especially if you're troubleshooting an issue.

Having the message wrapped into multiple lines like it was previously is definitely a lot more intuitive.

There does seem to have been a bit of arbitrariness in some recent changes with the nebulous justification of 'streamlining' or 'simplification'.

The removal of the text copy of the system log is another example of a useful debugging tool gone south.

Disabling YAML-based configuration of integrations is another bug-bear. I can keep my YAML under revision control but the UI-based config-flow result are buried under the hood in the container.

I wish I knew how to get this message across, in a positive way.

We love HA. We're not whiners or complainers. We want to be able to fully exploit its functionality. We want it to continue to grow.

It almost seems like there's been a change, and now development is moving in a "form over function" direction.

I understand that there's a lot of complaining by new users that HA is too complicated. It's good to try to address that.

But removing functionality to make it easier for non-users isn't the solution. Removing information from the displays to make it look less intimidating doesn't help either.

Frankly, if I were to try and re-create this view now, it strikes me it would be more complicated than before. There's a certain irony to this.

But yeah I am also one who loves HA and don't want to start a whinge war. I just wondered if you can get that information back somehow.

Right now it seems like there just isn't a way to get this data? It's not the end of the world, it's just a bit of a shame to lose it.

FYI @sender created an issue here

I also find the updated activity view not as good as the old one. Yes, the new one is cleaner but was there a need to have a cleaner view? For me I liked the way the time was shown. So everything within the las 60 minutes, the passed minutes where shown. E.g. light turned on - 22 minutes passed. Now if I would like to have the same information, I have to click on the time string, every time I open the activity tab :frowning: I would love to get the old view back or even better, the view should recognize my setting.
