[New Addon] Samba NAS. (Mount external disk and share it )

I realize this might not specifically solve your issue but one interesting thing I have discovered about samba shares:

I have several rp4 containerized ha implementations. One in particular has a windows 10 machine with mapped drives to the rp4 as configured in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file. The setup has worked flawlessly until I decided to see if I could access the rp4 file system using the samba platform available from the ha community. Previously I have accessed the ha filesystem using putty. So I wondered if there was any advantage using the samba integration. After installing the integration - a few days later - I discovered the windows 10 share to a specific share on the rp4 is missing. I wasted several hours poking around using suggestions from google searches but ultimately I came away with the opinion there is some ā€œghostā€ share taking place; I had tried in vain to map a share to the rp4 and always got some arcane error from billy gates. So at a last ditch thought - I took the samba implementation out of ha - which allowed the specifications from the /etc/samba/smb.conf file to function.

bottom line: I will continue to use putty to access the ha filesystem and leave well enough alone with the samba integration.

I wanted to post this to possibly offer a suggestion to someone battling with a microsoft windows share issue on a rp4 system

cheersā€¦ jp

Anyone got idea why my disk doesnā€™t work formatted to ext4?
Tried with fat32, all went good, wanted to switch into ext4 and seems system canā€™t mount it but it gets detected

Is a bug in the addon. Backup is stripped from the name in the mount. Open a issue in GitHub so I can trace and correct in the next version.
Meantime you can change the disk label so the name not contain backup or other reserved words.

L.

Iā€™ve run into this issue as well and opened a Github issue here: šŸ› [SambaNAS] Can't mount `moredisks` with label that contains a reserved word as substring Ā· Issue #188 Ā· dianlight/hassio-addons Ā· GitHub

Hello all, my first post here  .
Since the latest update of this addon 12.2.0 this addon stop working for me. The plugin is not able now to mount the disk and I get this error, does anyone have the same issue?

a bit offtopic, but samba is a bit of a resource user. Perhaps you could also give the choice to mount as NFS? then we probably get some higher speeds.
I will try this add-on probably tommorow or friday, itā€™s a great solution to the HAOS handicap of not able to directly use usb drives for media.

same for meā€¦ it no longer works.

I canā€™t get it working:
Getting the error: No MoreDisks to mount.
I am also not finding anything in /mnt or anything that shows HAOS recognises a drive being plugged in.

EDIT: Formatted and made a new partition with label, now it works, but getting the same error as people above:

create_connection_session_info: user '_ha_mount_user_' (from session setup) not permitted to access this share (FRIGATE)
create_connection_session_info failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
[15:34:36] ERROR: Got unexpected response from the API: Mounting FRIGATE did not succeed. Check host logs for errors from mount or systemd unit mnt-data-supervisor-mounts-FRIGATE.mount for details.
[15:34:36] WARNING: Error Automount FRIGATE - Mount Manually!

EDIT 2: It still works, also tested a reboot of home assistant. the above error can simply be ignored.

frigate is recording to the usb-connected drive now
Now hopefully NFS will one day be supported for a bit more lighter weight storage.

My storage just stopped working yesterday. Maybe with the HA update but Iā€™m not sure. Iā€™m not very good with networking, so is there something easy I need to change to get it working again?

I noticed that using this add-on for frigate, going to the frigate storage tab, storage is being used double as much. viewing the samba share with windows, i see that all files are present in the frigate folder, AND in the media/frigate folder. deleting one of those files deletes it in the other place as well, however frigate keeps seeing both files, so therefore can only use half of the drive.
is there a way to circumvent this?

Also, where is the hard drive mounted? cant find the drive anywhere with sshā€¦

Drive are mounted in /media if you enable media library so /media/frigate and /frigate are alias of the same disk. No waste of space or double write.

L

i see. but enabling or disabling the media library, i noticed i can still access the media folder through PC.
And frigate would still count double the data, because it sees all the files double.

The options donā€™t enable or disable the media share but enable or disable the the disk location mount path inside or outside media folder.
I donā€™t understand your configuration very well, I need more details about your sambanas and frigate configuration.
Also I suggest to reboot your host ( not the addon but the whole system ) if you switch the medialibrary options because if the share is in use the change canā€™t be made and is ignored

Feel free to open an issue on GitHub because here I canā€™t give you more support.

L

i had the same issue and rolled back to the prior version of samba nas, which resolved it. one of the changes in the latest update was ā€œInternal HA Storage Mount is done with a generated superuser;ā€ if the superuser is ā€˜ha_mount_userā€™, that appears to be whatā€™s causing the issue given the log info under ā€˜create_connection_session_infoā€™

should mention that Iā€™m running supervised ha on a rpi fully updated as of this comment with media files on a usb-connected ssd formatted exfat / mbp

may be responsive to issues mentioned by @atxgu and @Sangoku given the log posted by the former

Great add-on! Just what Iā€™ve been looking for. I have the sensors working via MQTT, I cannot see a ā€œstatusā€ sensor though or a way of determining whether the NAS is mounted/functioning correctly or thereā€™s some kind of problem? Am I overlooking something?

Do you enable the ā€˜mqtt integrationā€™ option in config?

sorry, donā€™t think I explained myself well. I have all the MQTT sensors working ok. I just didnā€™t know which was the best one to use to verify that the drive has been mounted successfully?
I guess just check whether the entity sensor.sambanas_disk_xxxx_sambanas_mountpoints_xxxx exists?

Iā€™m having this problem with the latest version. An external USB disk canā€™t be mounted since version 12.1.0. Here is my log:

Any ideas? Should I open an issue with this?

Cheers. Firstly, I love your addon! I use it to mount my NAS as well as a second drive for Frigate. This however proves to be challenging ATM as the addon, while using Homeassistantā€™s new mounting system, capitalizes the names of the Folders instead of leaving them the way the drives are named. Frigate meanwhile expects itā€™s folder to be all small letters so ultimately I had to turn off mounting in the addon and instead do it manually. Obviously this is only a minor inconvenience but maybe a fix can be implemented some time!

Best regards

Hello, I am rather new to HA and this great Samba NAS Addon.

My problem is that I can not discover the USB driver I connected to my HA/Laptop Server.
It seems that it is because

[19:04:06] INFO: Protection Mode is true
[19:04:06] WARNING: MoreDisk and Automount ignored because of ADDON in Protected Mode!

I saw in this topic that some of the users were able just to turn this protection mode off. But I just do not have such an option at all.

I read HA documentation that suggests enabling Advanced Mode which is done by me too.

Any advice or hint would be really much appreciated.
