Oh that’s not good to hear
Apparently others have better results but I do read a lot of feedback on poor presence.
So my advice: IF you decide to buy one from Ali then make sure you have free return included, the price does not change but self-return-costs from here (France) are over 30EUR (needs tracking) and thus half the price thrown away if you donot want it or if it does not work.
So you think defect is from hardware and not from software adjustments?
I have not yet found an option to tweak software. My main issues are with low reach (<3m instead of spec’ed 5) and losing presence even if the device is less than 1m next to me. Triggering the device by slight movement can also be measured by my much cheaper sonoff motion detector so not sure what to think of it…expensive at a minimum if you (as I am) looking for ‘presence’
On the upside, the direction of movement is quite nice which you can use to steer other stuff with, the low range however makes it usable in a small-ish area only
EDIT: both devices sadly do no behave the same too…Where I am still testing, I placed the within 10cm of one another pointing in the same direction…this is what I see… the left one is correct but sometimes (!) the right one is…
The new tuya mmWave sensors look like much better value than the fp1.
Along the specs on Ali it has a 3m range…it is about half the price of FP1 but not better on performance…sadly…but maybe this is not at all (legally) feasible with this type of radar-device?
Specs tells me 7-10m range?
where do you see that? It could be a translation but I only see 3m

More mmwave products, nice… I will wait feedback then as up to 9m is really great (for me)
As far as I know, the review on ZY-M100 Tuya Human Presence Sensor Review | Blakadder's Smarthome Shenanigans is about that model I mentioned (https://a.aliexpress.com/_EQ7UuKN).
Yep…missed that, I just searched Ali for tuya mmwave…so there are more products now …good news as FP1 still stinks with me and was high in price
This article might also be interesting for readers here… comparing 3 commercial mmwave sensors including the FP1 and Tuya ones.
To tweak the advanced options such as detecting in which area of the room detection occurred etc, is the only option to get an aqara hub? No way to do it via home assistant or any way else, is there?
hello,
reading whole thread seems that fp1 is not that much?
at the moment there is still missing zones functionality for Zigbee2MQTT (https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee2mqtt/issues/11019#issuecomment-1293828698) Is there some progress of the implementation in z2mqtt?
seems also accuracy of sensor / so many false negatives…
Is anyone happy to share some use-cases of that device? Also if there is something better as replacement?
Maybe cheap camera using frigate and coral is better alternative?
thanks!
I have the FP1 setup in MQTT and without zones it kind of makes it not that great depending on the room. It works great for me but I also have an overhead fan and if it’s on at any speed the occupancy will never change. I believe it doesn’t support zones due to it only being available in China, at least from what I read.
I read elsewhere that to it works perfectly with an aqara hub in HA but you have to change the region in the Aqara app to China just to detect it before setting up in HA. It also described some other steps that sounded time consuming and I don’t want to purchase an aqara hub or any hub which is why I use HA.
There’s a YouTuber that built his own that supposedly works better then the FP1 but it’s out of stock and the guy wasn’t expecting so many orders so who knows when/if he will sell any others. I also believe it doesn’t support zones but it’s setup in ESPHome instead of using ZigBee
If I turn the overhead fan off it works perfectly in HA using Zigbee2MQTT but if it’s on the occupancy never changes. Also, if you have pets, that causes issues also depending on the room it’s in and if the pet is not allowed in that room but that isn’t common.
Apparently Aqara just started selling the P1 in China so hopefully they start selling the FP1 n other regions which is why zones don’t currently work in Zigbee2MQTT, at least from my research. Every other sensor works in Zigbee2MQTT but zones can’t be setup so you can’t map out the room to tell it to ignore certain areas. It’s also a headache to update the firmware through Zigbee2MQTT but it’s double.
They are gonna start selling FP2 now. Unfortunately its WiFi
Maybe there will be support for matter… Time will tell…
Aqara FP2 announcement at CES. Available globally, has zones, can detect multiple people and do different automations depending on where you are. For example if you lay down in your bed it can do a specific automation then another when you get out of bed. Still wondering if you can make it ignore areas that have movement like ceiling fans. That was the biggest issue for me with the FP1 except for not supporting zones.
With that said, those features are based on zones so I don’t know how that will work out when using it in Home Assistant but maybe someone can figure that out. Maybe emulate the Aqara app similar to the HomeKit emulation. Uses wifi, not Matter, at least when it comes.out as presence detectors are not in the first round of devices that support Matter but will be updated to support Matter whenever that happens. Works completely locally and is powered by USB C (not attached) so will allow for better placement. Here’s the link for top picks for the Apple Home announced devices at CES. Jump to the 13:49 minutes mark for the details. Maybe more details later as this video seems to be specific to devices announcement for Apple but I imagine the Aqara app works the same on Android so I don’t expect it will.
Hi, Mihai! I’ve got the same problem with one of my Aqara FP1. It blinks twice on power connection and thats all… no respond for reset button, no respond to zigbee dongle. Have you fixed yourth unit?
