New dashboard security woes

I must say I’m not a fan of the 2026.2 dashboard changes…

I provide simple view-only custom dashboards to a few users… They should have minimal access to anything on the system. I can get my dashboards running, and set as default, but then when I use the UI as an admin, my dashboards are no longer at the top of the sidebar…

Users who should have no access to anything other than the stuff in my provided custom dashboard, can now select any of the new dashboards from user settings → dashboard, then access all devices configured in home assistant… Why can’t these new dashboards be deleted? They are pointless anyway, I have all the things that I want in my (yaml) dashboards…

I have long been annoyed by the lack of control that I have over what users can see/access, but this one is a nightmare.

Am I missing something? Or have things suddenly gotten a lot worse?

And on a test system I couldn’t back out to 2026.1 which was probably less of an issue. That’s something else I need to look into.

I’ve had to remove all the users for now. Hopefully this is fixable…

I can only guess it’s because the developers of HA seem to think they know more about what you want to do with your system than you do.

I have your same opinion. 2026.2 broke all my dashboard… I switched back to 2026.1. It’s very frustrating to see the work and time invested in creating custom dashboards disappear in 2026.2. I don’t expect that by upgrading a product I’ll have to invest even more time to continue doing what I was already doing.

I opened an issue on github about this. Feel free to comment and vote!

I just loaded 2026.3.0 which makes it possible to make these new dashboards admin only, so the security issues have been addressed. The problem obviously should not have existed in the first place.

I’ll leave a comment on the github issue raised, as there are additional suggestions in there about not creating them for existing users, and certainly not making them default etc…
