Recently i have been trying to add esp32 devices and sensors to my home assistant. The process has been as normall, in that you add device, connect to the device, then carry out a firrst installation. When that comnpletes normally there is a new device appears in the ESPHome tab, even when you click the drop down to show new devices, the device i have just added does not appear in the ESPHome window.
Is anyone else experiencing this or have they and worked out a fix for this please ? Any help would be very much appreciated.
I have added a screen grab showing that i have some devices in the ESPHome area and they were all discovered with no problems, but for the last couple of months i have not been able to add any more.
Not sure why they aren’t being discovered (assuming the most obvious - that your YAML includes the api section), but you can manually add an ESPHome device by IP address. In the ESPHome device area there is a spot at the top right with a button that says ADD DEVICE. If you click that you can add a device by putting in it’s IP address.
Check your router for an IP lease to the new ESPHome device.
See if you can ping that IP.
If you can not ping it, then you have entered wrong WiFi credentials or your router have issues.
Hello wally, thanks for the suggestion. I can add them manually into the devices & integrations area so they are working, but the esphome is not detecting the new device within the esp area when the new module is added through the esphome page. This also means that i cannot edit and update the easily using the ESPHome page
There is no discovery there. That area shows all devices for which source code is found in /config/esphome (or /homeassistant/esphome, depending which tool you use to look)
These will show in the esphome device builder add-on
Thank you, that has helped me enormously, you just pointed me in the right direction and i realised that i could SMB into the config files and amend that and all of a sudden, new sensors are being populated as i create them, many many thanks
