New Forum Layout

is there a trick to getting your unread topics to actually show that they have been read?

I get the indicator that I have, say, 2 unread posts in a watched thread. then I click on the thread and read them. But when I go back to the list they still show up there and when I refresh the list the same indicator pops back up that I still have the same 2 unread posts that I just read.

I pointed that out too that the only way I’ve gotten past it is to scroll top-to-bottom on a message but I’m finding that works most but not all of the time.

I’m being patient @petro, I am! I do hope we revert back some of these things to the old style, I’ve found it cumbersome enough that I’m not really answering posts because things are still a bit wonky.

It’s still migrating profiles. We are going to have to wait some time before we see if things are bugs or if they are related to the migration.

That explains why the read/unread count is off, the server is probably pretty bogged down and can’t quite keep up with the JS requests.

So does the (=) equal key. At the bottom of the hamburger menu there is a keyboard icon with all of the (handy) keyboard shortcuts.

I can’t page “larger” screenshots:

Yes, that’s due to the currently migrating profiles. When the migration is complete, that will work again.

Thanks for efforts for moving to the new design.
Will a corresponding Blog article be issued?

No. Discourse just updated. If you want to read up on changes, head over to discourses website and check it out. It’s an open source forum hosting software. The server went through its yearly update, that’s all that happened. This is new for us too

Where is the “latest” button?

At the top of the page… (where it always was)

It won’t currently let me post a screen shot unfortunately.

Its no longer in the menu thats accessible by clicking on your avatar - thats my biggest bugbare with the new version of discourse

Sorry, I had to be more specific. I do not see it in the mobile version where is was in the hamburger menu. And not in the new menu as well as in my profile picture…

Another thing (might also have to do with migration?) is that the read counters do not disappear when I read it but stay…

I am no longer able to upload images to posts.

I would attach an image of the error but I can’t lol

I don’t know if templating will be able to bring back some of the old ease-of-use, but I’m hopeful it does.

Having the links to new/unread on the avatar is easier than hamburger menu (or clicking the logo or using = and clicking) as it is is more steps to get to the same result. Perhaps I’m picking nits, and if this is how it is from now on then I’ll get used to it but I found myself disinterested in going through all those steps the dozen or so times I visit the forums to follow up on questions I asked, answers I gave that got replies or new activity on watched threads.

I read the release notes, there are some pretty cool new features but some of them aren’t really things I think will get a lot of use on this forum, like much of the chatting stuff since this isn’t a social site as much as it is a Q&A site but I get that there were probably some things under the hood that make this site better that’s not as much in the view of an end user that really drove this massive update.

Regardless, I know it was a huge lift for the mods and admins and I surely appreciate all the hard work that is done voluntarily by you all to keep a great community going strong.

My man, we don’t write the forum software. We can’t pick and choose features. Our last update to the server was in 2020. If you have requests to change functionality, here is not the place. You have to ask on discourse’s website. I’m not sure how more clear I can be: We do not write this software. We have no control over the features.
