New Foundry Collection: Vintage Analog Meters & Digital VU Cards for Home Assistant

Hi everyone,

I’ve always found that standard gauges can feel a bit “sterile” on a dashboard. I wanted to bring back the feeling of a 1970s recording studio or a vintage power plant control room.

I’m excited to share the latest updates to Foundry Card, specifically focusing on my three favorite ways to visualize live data: the Analog Meter, the Digital VU, and the Industrial Gauge.

1. The Analog VU Meter Designed after classic audio equipment, this card features a weighted needle with realistic physics.

  • Tactile Styles: Choose from Brass, Copper, or Chrome rings.
  • Aged Detail: The “Wear Level” slider adds dust, scratches, and patina to the faceplate.
  • Dynamic Segments: Define your own “Red Line” zones for high-stress values.

2. The Digital VU Meter For that 80s rack-mount aesthetic. It’s perfect for monitoring house-wide power consumption or network throughput.

  • Fast Response: High-refresh animations that make your dashboard feel “alive.”
  • Custom Gradients: Go from classic Green-Yellow-Red to any color palette that fits your theme.

3. The Foundry Gauge A “tank-style” meter for when you need to see pressure, temperature, or levels. It uses the same industrial vacuum-tube glass effect as the rest of the Foundry collection.

Why Foundry?

I built these because I wanted depth. Most cards are flat; these have layers:

  • Glass Overlay: A subtle reflection effect that makes the card look like it’s sitting behind a lens.
  • Industrial Fonts: Carefully selected typography to match the vintage aesthetic.
  • Aggressive Performance: Uses hardware-accelerated CSS animations so it won’t lag your tablet or mobile device.

Installation

Foundry is available now via HACS (search for “Foundry Card”).

I’m curious—for those of you building “Control Room” style dashboards, what’s the one vintage component you’re still missing? I’m currently looking at an Odometer-style counter for the next update.

I’d love to see screenshots of these in your setups! Of course these all have themes and if you come up with one you love post the yaml and a screenshot here!
