I am just a HA beginner and currently I am using only wireless zigbee sensors but in a new house I am planning to build and use also some wired door and motion sensors which I can at this moment easily plan.
But my problem is that I don’t know what devices use to integrate them with HA and which sensors use.
Should I look at PLC ??? Where should I look? What to read? Watch??? Any help will be great!
Sensors can use almost anything:
- wifi / lan
- modbus
- serial
- zigbee
- zwave
- RF433
But I think you should look not at the protocols, but supported brands, or if you looks for locks
PS, for motion I guess Zigbee is as good as any other (i use a mix of Zigbee as well as RF433).
Exactly this…
If i was building new and had open walls…
Do I have enough wired network Yes WiFi6 exists but trunks and backhauls are necessary. I’d still run the wire in fact. One in every room and two or more in offices bedrooms and the living room. Use conduit because no i dont know what wireline media will be in 20 years but it will still exist, this way you can change wit the times.
Lo voltage wire. Everywhere. Like 4 conductor bell wire to the top corner of every door and window im addition to wired generic security system reed switches (you can get them by the dozen at any security system installer). Run everything back to a single mechanical / comms closet.
(powered smart blinds that can individually respond to open windows?without batteries?)
Beyond that pick standards based protocol then finally what brands offer those things.
What exactly you would use???
