I bought a HA Yellow and a CM 5 via RaspberryPi.dk. Installing it acording the Guide /Manual went smoothly, but every now and than it just shuts down. It is not reachable nd no LEDs are on/blinking, after plugging it out and in again it starts up normally.
I disabled most integrations I installed and got the time between shutdowns up from minutes to hours again, but it keeps happening. I changed the Power supply to a 3A version–> no change. I checked the heatsink and the pads beneath. seems fine. I checked the Processor temperature and it stays between 40 and 50°C…
I checked the Logs and did not find anything suspicious.
Does anyone have an Idea how to resolve this?
On reddit someone changed from the CM5 back to a CM4 and it resolved it for him. I would like to avoid buying anouther CM…
I will try a complete factory reset later today, but it started the very first day i got it…
Thanks:)
thanks for your reply. yes I read that and I used the rpiboot method to install HA. I will reinstall it later using the described method and see if it helps but I am not very hopeful.
A raspberry pi only puts out a limited current through the usb ports, not sure if this is the same with the cm things. But if you are running a USB ssd and a dongle it can sometimes overwheml the USB ports causing crashes. Worth trying a powered USB hub if this is the case.
thank you for the reply, but the CM5 is mounted on the HA Yellow and no dongle or anything is connected apart from the 12V Power supply and the Ethernetcable
I read through that and tried different ways to set the HA up again (putty and rpiboot) but the failures occur now so fast, that I cant even login anymore… seems to me that it is a hardware issue, the question is whether it is the CM or the “Yellow”. is there a way to find out or should I just buy a new CM and check if it helps?
… a year later… Anyone found the solution to this problem? It happens to me too. Every 48 hours or so I find Yellow has shut down. It restarts flawlessly by unplugging / replugging the power jack, until 1 or 2 day later…you guessed what. Are there specific logs for the Yellow and / or RaspbarryPi (CM5)?
You can see logs from before the restart in the home-assistant.log.1 file in the configuration folder. The entries at the bottom of the file are whatever was logged immediately before the restart.
You can access the log file either via the File Editor Addon or via Samba if you don’t want to hook up a monitor to get it from the CLI.
Hi, I face the same problem. A replacement of the CM5 did NOT resolve the problem and the seller confirmed, that I am not the only one. A downgrade to CM4 seems to be the solution. I am using CM5 (Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5, not wireless, 08 GB RAM, 32 GB eMMC). Maybe other configurations are “better”? It was not a problem on the CM5 apparently - it works with Raspian.
