New here. Node appears to be communicating, but not showing up on network

Hello. Just set up hassbian. My z-stick is configured, and when I added my first node, though it appears to be communicating with the controller, no new node has been added to my control panel. Am I missing something?

Controller: Aeotec ZW090 Z-Stick Gen5 US
Node: GE Smart Switch 12727

Did you restart?

Yes. Rebooted the Pi. Still not showing up.

Dumb question, sorry. Why do you think its there? Node001 is usually the USB zwave controller. Might want to try to add again

not a dumb question, seems valid to me. Didn’t even notice that.

That does make sense. I have tried every which way I can think of. I bought another switch on amazon, I will see if it works.

Setting this up seems so straightforward, I can’t see where I am going wrong.

I have three 12727’s, and the same Z-Wave stick, so they definitely work with HA. Sorry, but another “did you plug it in” type question  … Did you go to the Z-Wave control panel and click on ADD NODE, and then shortly after that toggle the switch? If you did, and the switch is powered and close enough to the Z-Wave controller stick, it should have been recognized and added to HA. And I know some changes have been made since I originally set mine up, but I think it still does require at least one HA restart after doing these things.

Yes, that was what I did, in that order, including the reboot.

The switch finishes the circuit when it’s flipped, so I assume it’s plugged in correctly with the neutral wire as well.

I ordered another switch to replace the one I have. I’ll update in a few days when it comes in.

How close is the switch to the controller, and what’s in between? Z-Wave doesn’t go too far, especially these older switches that aren’t Z-Wave Plus. If they’re not all that close, or there are a lot of walls, appliances, etc. in between, although it’s a pain, you might have to find a way to get them closer together while trying to “pair” them.

Thanks. It’s sitting on a table about 7-8 feet away, there is a little overlap with a wall. I’ll see if I can set it up even closer.

I also tried removing the stick and doing it manually pressed right up against the switch, even though it seems most people don’t recommend doing it that way. Still didn’t work. I reset the stick back to factory settings after.

Was the switch ever added to another device (like smartthings)? If so try an exclude, actually I recommend trying an exclude anway. then try to add

Is it possible the switch is already paired to a network? Just to be on the safe side, try excluding it first (i.e., click REMOVE NODE and toggle the switch), then trying adding it again.

Boom.

Excluded the switch. Restarted.

Booted. Added New Node. No result…but…

I was running the pi and using the control panel from desktop in the other room over SSH. Everytime I had requested to add or exclude, I had to walk across the hall and tap the button. This time, I opened control panel from my phone browser, pressed add and within 3 seconds tapped the switch, and BOOM. It connected.

Technology is great. Thanks for help everyone.
