New installation of HA and HACS

I am new to HA and have installed it on a Del Optiplex. It seems to function as expected but seems to be deteriorating rapidly. I successfully installed some add ons, and can see my reolink cameras. I installed HACS but could not download any new repositories because this feature is greyed out. After working through the trouble shooting list unsuccessfully, I uninstalled HACS and reinstalled it but it now does not appear in the sidebar. I am finding a number of add on installation links from various sources that do not work. I am beginning to wonder if this computer is not compatible with HA or if I have some issue that needs to be resolved. I would like to resolve this before I put a lot of time into configuring this. My apologies that this is rather vague and lacking in precise terminology. I am also wondering if there is some bios setting interfering. I installed and ran Mint to test the computer and it has a new SSD. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

It will help if you can describe what process you used to install HA. Pasting the “Settings → About” page will also help:

Looking in Settings → System → Logs is invalueable for troubleshooting - what errors do you see there?

When clicking links to install apps like HACS ( Link to Add-on: dashboard – My Home Assistant ), I get my.home-assistant.io says invalid parameters given. I found a different link that did work. When I looked at the log when installing HACS it said everything was ok. here is what the system log shows

I need to mention that I am using Mac computers and Chrome browser. Opera will not work at all.

Again, it’s essential that we understand how you installed HA (not HACS) in the first place. There are several installation methods and which one you used matters. Are you running HAOS directly on the Optiplex, or under a virtual machine, or…? Did you follow the official installation steps, a youtube video, or…?

Sorry this isn’t directly getting to your frustration point, but it’s really essential to understand your environment before trying to dive deeper with troubleshooting.

Hello John_Dennis,

Please click here and tell us what it says…
Open your Home Assistant instance and show your Home Assistant version information.

I installed the generic X86 OS directly from the Home Assistant website and it is running as the OS.

I am having trouble remembering some of the specifics, I started on this project trying to install HA on an old ZBOX mini computer and used several different methods over multiple attempts before installing HA on the Optiplex which worked on the first attempt. I think I followed the instructions on the HA website.

Since I haven’t created any automations or configurations yet, I am very willing to format the drive and start over If that might resolve these problems.

Possible causes that I can think of;

the computer itself, I tested it by web surfing with a regular HDD install of Mint, and also used the Mint memory test before installation.

Mac Computer, I do not have a windows machine but I could load Mint on an old computer and try that.
