New PC, but can't restore HA from backup

I’m about ready to pay someone to do this for me, as I’m at my wits end.

I have my HA installed on my PC and needed to update it to windows 11 from windows 10 on a new C drive. So I got Virtual Box and installed a clean HA, clicked restore from my latest google drive backup zip, and I’ve been waiting for HOURS for home assistant to restore from backup as I keep hearing ‘doodloo, doodloo’ like a usb dongle is getting ejected from my PC constantly.

That’s done nothing, I finally aborted it, so I’ve been trying to restore my .vdi file in virtualbox, but even though it boots up and tells me to use homeassistant.local:8123, I cannot get that or my duckdns.org to work!!! It either has error empty response, or error connection time out, etc.

Please, I spent so many hours over the course of 4 years organizing and designing and creating my HA. I do not want to loose it or start over, and I do not really understand what I’m even doing. Can someone point me in the right direction and explain it to me like I’m 5? I’m sorry I’m fully pregnant and at my wits end at this point, can’t use half of my smart home stuff until this gets resolved. Thank you.

Get a basic HA instance up and running and then go from there.

Worst case is you manually add the the devices and restore the rest manually, but that may be more complicated than its worth for you. It should be completely doable but it would take some time.

Thank you I have no idea what did it but suddenly its working now, but now I cant get alexas integration to connect. So onto problem number 568…
