Interesting question, I stumbled in here because I was looking for the correct way to integrate Shelly into HA.
I already had several Shelly devices but just started with HA and sometimes I find it hard to find my Shelly devices.
Would be great if someone could shed some light on the “correct” way to integrate Shelly devices (old and new) in a way that they have consistent names.
And welcome to HA! It has been a steep learning curve for over a year now for me. What makes things easier now, is that so many things have been added to GUI and not too many things need YAML code anymore - unless you want to do advanced things.
There is an integration to Shelly. Works fine. When I add a Shelly device to my home network, HA finds it automatically and offers to add the device. Just as shown in screenshots in my first post of this topic. So far I have had almost 100% success in adding devices, except the new “feature” described in this post. Would be cool to hear whether you get the naming correctly or not.
In case any questions arise, don’t hesitate to ask. This has been a valuable forum for me.
Totally agree, all my Shelly devices went into HA quite easy. The only thing is the naming. At least this doesn’t affect WAF, as I can easily rename them in HA. It’s just about setting up automations, etc. when I sometimes struggle to find them.
I hoped there was some kind of best practice, like resetting them first and then let HA do the rest or similar.
No worries, I can handle that.
Thanks for you answer and have a great Sunday.
