New to HA. Considering wich hardware can be used

Hi people!

I’m using an Homey for years now and I’m very happy with it. However, there are a couple of devices wich are not compatible with Homey, but are with Home Assistant. So I want to run HA for those devices.

I have 3 options, but I’m not sure wich of them are availible and wich is the best option to use.

I’m having a Windows 10 HTPC, and I am wondering if I can run HA as an application on windows. Is this possible? Or do I really need a dual boot configuration. In that case, I am not able to run windows AND HA at the same time right?

I also have a Galaxy tab s6 to my wall in the livingroom as a dashboard/control panel wich is operational 24 hours a day. Is it possible to run HA on a tablet?

Last option, I’m having a RB pi 4 wich runs raspbian with deconz in combination with a conbee 2 zigbee stick for all my zigbee devices. Is it possible to run HA on that device at the same time? So, just as a program on my pi together with deconz?

Most easy way for me is to run HA as a windows application on my pc for the easy of use. But like I said, I am not sure if that it possible.

I hope someone can help me in the right direction…

Cheers,
Marcel

You can run HA in windows in a VM. But I think I remember historically that there may be issues running it that way for some installations. Tho they may have been resolved.

I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard of anyone running HA on a tablet before so I’m going to take a leap and say it’s not possible.

the RPi4 would work fine to run HA on. and if you install the “Home Assistant Supervised” installation version of HA you can still run the other stuff on there as well.

the only thing I question is if HA might complain about the OS (Raspbian). are you sure it’s really Raspbian? I thought that had been switched to Raspberry OS?

But either way you can try it and if you have issues you can always re-install a straight Debian OS on the Pi and then put HA Supervised and Deconz on that too.

Thanks!

You’re right, it is a debian installation. Or actually Raspbian. On the download page of deconz it says:

“Stable image with desktop based on Debian Buster”

So in that case, a “Home Assistant Supervised” instlallation is my best option I think? I will try to get it to work.

Thanks for your information!
