New User Can't access HA through web or app

I went for the HA green because it was supposed to be plug and play lol…

Anyway I can’t access via web or app. I am viewing console and it says
"low voltage detected, date/time is not reliable. I checked the router date settings and all seems ok.

I noticed the last post was exactly the same issue and zero solutiuons so I am losing hope

Hi, check the troubleshooting part here: Documentation – Home Assistant Green

I think you have to look in the direction of not connecting to your network/internet logically.

Thanks for your input Nick. When I follow that link, in troubleshooting there are just 3 options… reset to factory, reset using SD card, and using console on HDMI display…

Are u suggesting I should attempt a reset? I can access the console and it says there is an error but I have no idea what to do next.

This indicates that the system cannot reach a time server on the internet to set the right time.
The battery/RTC is there for keeping the right time settings, not to set them.

Are you using some blocking software on your network (Pi-Hole or Adguard)?

So I reconnected my network in a different way and it seems to have got rid of the error messages but I still can’t access via either web or app. I do use an adblocker in chrome but I disabled that early on in the troubleshooting process.

I can find it in my router network map, and connect via console but that’s it

What way and how was it connected before.
Your problem indicates a network issue and it’s not easy to troubleshoot from here with the info that you are providing.

Which DNS servers are you using?

So before it went from ISP modem via a switch before the wifi router. Now I changed it to ISP modem LAN1 - Wifi Router WAN port - switch (in that order). HA green is connected to wifi router LAN port

I have no doubt it’s a network issue but I’m not a netowrk engineeer so it can be hard to provide good info, but I will try. Thanks

What kind of device is that ‘Wi-Fi Router’? and is your modem also a router?

What happens if you try to access

from your browser and ping from your HA?

So my Wifi router is an Asus RT-AC68U. The ISP modem is also a router although I have disabled the wifi. Everything has been working fine for years like this for simple stuff.

Do u think I might need to work out how to put said ISP modem into bridge mode?!

First link works fine, second link gives 404 page not found.

Not sure how to ping from my HA yet? I guess that’s from console?

Is that Asus configured as Router or AP?

On the console:, after ha> type login and then resolvectl
What do you get as return and is this in line with the rest of your network.

Asus configured as router.

I don’t really know what any of that means tbh so It’s hard to say if it’s in line with the rest of my network.

What is 192.168.2.1, the Asus or your modem?

Thats the Asus router

Is your modem on the same network address scheme?
Are your modem and Asus both handing out IP addresses through DHCP?

Do you need to have the Asus in router mode for something particular?
If it’s in router mode, behind another router, you will most likely face issues afterwards if you want to access your HA from outside your network.

Having 2 routers on a network is asking for troubles.

So the modem is on 192.168.1.1 is that what u mean? I think it’s the same address scheme.

Asus is using DHCP. I’m not sure about the modem. It’s a horrible POS and the interface is awful. Maybe it is also using DHCP… this is why i was asking about the bridge mode for the router.

I don’t have it that way for anything in particular, I just thought that was the default and the way it shoud be. It’s been working for everything I needed it for so far including simple smart home stuff via google home, and remote accessing files on my NAS (albeit through an app), remote control of smart home devices outside home network etc.

I thought that using the ASUS as router afforded me some protection and that ISP modems are generally trash and best just used as modem and not router.

It seems like what you’re saying is that I should use the crappy ISP modem as router and Asus as just AP, but wouldn;t bridge mode on the modem be better?

Thanks for your patience

What gives ping ghcr.io from the HA console?

192.168.2.1 & 192.168.1.1 are NOT the same network.

Regarding router/bridge/2 routers: IF you don’t have any client directly on your modem, you could set it to bridge mode and use the Asus as the main/only router.

I typed that into console and it said not found

Ah ok that makes sense now that there’s 2 networks.

I found this convoluted method to put modem into bridge mode so I will attempt that. Why could they not just put a button?! https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeNetworking/comments/17hbsly/suscesfully_managed_to_activate_and_use_bridge/

I have nothing connected to modem other than the router. I guess I was kinda attempting to use it as bridge but didn’t realise I had to change the mode.

That’s the root of your problem with HA!

Seems like bridge mode on this POS modem is not gonna be possible. There’s not even an option. I tried to hack it following a video but no cigar.

With that said u think I should put Asus router into AP mode instead? What are the potential ramifications? Securty issues? Will I have to reconfigure all the devices on my network?

Edit: Reached the limit of posts for new users

I went ahead and set it up as AP mode so now only the ISP modem is acting as router… and it still doesn’t connect! Any other ideas?

Edit 2: ghcr.io is alive!
Just not sure where to go now

Why are you complicating your network?

ISP Modem --(WAN)–> Router --(LAN)–> Switch ----> everything else.

Everything else can include your PC, your Home Assistant server, and WiFi Access Points you might have (WAP). Your router, if it is a 4-in-1 consumer router, will also have a few switched ports and a WiFi Access Point.

I have two questions tht aren’t clear from the discussion.

  1. What is the IP address of the router?
  2. What is the IP address of the Home Assistant server?
(As others have said, it’s a good bet that your LAN and the Green are on different networks).

You really need to have a keyboard/display on the Green at least during troubleshooting.
