First timer…using old kid laptop (AMD A9, 16gb RAM, Windows 11 Pro).
I enabled Virtual Machine platform and Hyper-V Manager but cannot enable Hyper-V Hypervisor. When I try and start the HA VM it says error starting as Hyper=V Hypevisor weasn’t running.
But I cannot enable it and the settings show as it being disbaled at firmware? Am out SOL?
You probably need to enable virtualization support, have a look in the BIOS. It’s a CPU related setting. According to Google it’s named SVM Mode, AMD-V or Virtualization Technology.
If You at all manage to get it Running, i doubt that you will get a pleasant " First experience " Of HA, or Virtualization , and on a Windows11 …
Which AMD A9 do you mean ?, are you aware of it’s Specs ?
Btw, What have you been “Running/Doing” since May 2018 in here ?
That machine shouldn’t even be able TO RUN W11, let alone enable hyper V. (the A9 series isn’t on the list) There were reports of it running like molasses because proc support if you could even manage to get it to run at all. (seems you did) I’m not sure it’ll even enable a hypervisor in recent builds of W11. If you DO somehow get it running… USB pass through on desktop Hyperv is sketch at BEST. (for some reason this is a differentiation on server v pro sku)
(translated: You’re going to have LOTS of issues with that config. Sorry you may want to try something different, I’m an ex ms windows perf engineer… If me I’m not going to try to fight that box.)
Is this a pc you use for other stuff? If not just install a bare metal install, bin windows.
Or better, install Proxmox VE. You still need to enable virtualization in the UEFI though.
Not everyone NEEDS to add the complications and learning curve that come with containers and virtualization.
Bare metal just works. (If the x86 PC meets the minimum requirements).
This hardware would only suffice for initial install to get a feel. Not for a setup to rely on for anything in real life. For any task it will jump to 100% cpu probably..

So others have suggested installing a bare OS…if the CPU is the issue how will that help?

OK so I found the bare metal install guide and started. DO I need to reformat my laptop HDD before booting Ubuntu from USB and writing the HA OS to it, or in writing HA OS to it will just delete all of the WIN OS?
Generally not. The flashing process will overwrite windows. The system is not very fast but it should still work if it can boot via UEFI.
Imagine, you have a windows(or any OS) With 2 CORE’s, and then you want to run a VM on this machine as well, obviously You can’t Dedicate 2 Cores or even threads to this VM, So that’s a main reason why Not to run Any kind of VM( which need a dedicated Core/thread to function in a stable way)
And to be honest, with that CPU ,you will most like experience the Lowest performance of any installs, as it’s not only a 2 CORE, it’s support only 1 channel memory, and the cache is kind of “tiny” .
So best choice is running on Baremetal, Or Not At All.
For most likely less than less than 100$ you can find a better used PC/laptop, Some People even throw better PC’s at the Junkyard, trust me!
PS: I read Your Deleted Post … No Ethernet port, and you seems to want to continue, with WIFI. Don’t, im pretty sure You will not Only run into several issues, You will also end Up with No Helping Responses in here
It sounds like you have decided to dedicate Your “Retirement Years” to fight Nature Laws, and make same mistakes as many others in here have done … btw , that’s what the Search Function in here is for, A handy and helping feature, same as the official Docs And stated Min Requirements for hardware ( IT’s there Not to trying to prevent You, But to help You getting a “decent” experience, good advice and basic knowledge.
no just finally setting it up and learn it as I have specific uses for it. If it all works, I am willing to get an NUC or PC to run it better (assuming I will be able to backup and restore my settings/configs at the time).
Try with a Ethernet over USB solution
I managed to get it working through CLI
HAOS (or everything else I know of) does not need that and cores can be over-allocated without issues.
