Newbie - Week 2 Power outage no HAOS

Well, I’m still learning. I was watching a tutorial on making a wired dumb doorbell work with HA.
Part of the instructions was to find out what circuit breaker the doorbell used.
So I started turning circuit breakers off and on. I found it. Pat on back.

You can guess what happened next. No HAOS.

My mac mini was powered off. Searched the web. Attached a keyboard and monitor to my mac mini. Attached my MediCat USB and rebooted holding the Alt key. Booted MediCat and installed Ubuntu (Try it mode). Opened a terminal session and enter: sudo setpci -s 0:1f.0 0xa4.b=0:1

Well, my family and friends would probably tell me Home Assistant doesn’t work.

Is there a way to do this during installation? From the Web Terminal?
The mac mini can just be power on to fix the problem, but I’ve only got a network and power cable plugged into mine.

If I connected to the web interface from Kentucky to my daughters HAOS in Virginia. Could I fix this?

P.S. I’m loving Home Assistant.
P.P.S. If you buy the Home Assistant Green, does it restart after power outage?

Start with 1 thing you want to do to start with please.
I get out of that HA was running, then you powered down and loaded Ubuntu. Then this…

Yeah… The breaker turned off and the Mac turned off. Ok… And…

So you reinstalled an os? I’m confused. Why did we not just turn the machine back on?

Yep, I was very confusing.
I did turn the HAOS mac mini back on and it came back up.
I am kind of nerdy and did a google search and found: “boot from Ubuntu and type in the this command”.
I do have a USB drive with MediCat installed and Ubuntu on there.
So I was able to set HAOS to power on after a power outage.
Before I put HAOS on the mac mini, I had macOS and the ChromeOS Flex. Both those systems allowed me to go into setting and set power on after power outage.
I was curious why HAOS didn’t have a setting to check.

Because I’m the tech guy in the family I occasionally setup tech at remote locations.
So all 4 of my questions were about setting HAOS to power on after a power outage.

  1. Can I set power on after power outage at installation?
    I worked with PCs and I think that’s set in the BIOS. No BIOS on my mac mini.
  2. When HAOS is installed and running, can I set power on after power outage from the settings or use a command from the Terminal line command? (This question was stated twice).
  3. Does the Home Assistant Green power on after a power outage?

I was saying restart instead of power on. Didn’t find anything in the Docs. The forum had information on power outages, but nothing about Apple pcs and setting power on

Yes, most PCs have power on after power loss which is set in the bios. It’s a little different for each manufacturer. I have yet to find a laptop that has power on after power loss. I am not a mac person so I can’t speak to that.

HAOS is an just that, an operating system (OS). In normal situations, it should start when your hardware starts.

I’m pretty sure HA Green normally powers up on the return of power.

(Note, normally here is used to mean: if your hard drive didn’t get scrambled when power was shut down … or some other fubaration occurred.)
