After updating to 0.98. I get this on every single card i try to edit. and then the gui preview disappears . This is super frustrating.
Is it just me, or my setup?? i thought everything was getting more user friendly,…this is going backwords.
The problem is your use of the custom card - if you were only using stock cards that would work.
What? What’s still backwards? Custom cards have always caused yaml mode for the GUI. Because they are custom and the configuration for custom cards is not known to HA.
EDIT: Also, stacks, i.e. vertical and horizontal stacks have always been yaml mode. They’ve never had the GUI.

Yes its always had an error. Ita always shown the preview though. Now that the preview is gone its stone age again.

Vertical and horizontal stacks have not… Card in cards have never had UI editing. You must be miss remembering.

FFS, you’re talking about the preview? That could be a bug. UI editing does not equal preview. Example of UI editing:
That’s a greyed out button that switches between yaml and UI. That’s available when you can use a GUI for editing. It’s not available in your horizontal stack.

And further more, I just verified that horizontal/vertical stacks preview still works. So as @Tinkerer said, this is because of your custom cards.

Cant imagine trying to do stacks in stacks, etc… without a visual guide.
Ha! I too have seen this message, new @ 0.98, and the braces. I had no idea those braces were actually a button. Is this documented somewhere? It’s not very intuitive…
Doesn’t appear to be. It’s used to have the name ‘Toggle Editor’. I just created an issue to have it renamed to ‘Toggle Editor’.

The take away from this thread is that custom cards are not guaranteed to work in the preview. Especially if these custom cards are not up to date and produce errors. If you are using chrome and you hit F12 (outside of configuration) and you see errors, then chances are, the preview will not work.

The same problem - “No visual editor available” for vertical and horizontal stacks. I’ve never had it working and it seem OK for me and I was writing configs in plain text, but today I’ve seen a working instance in demo HA site.

updated HA now to the latest “Home Assistant 0.106.2”, still there are no editors
its gotten a little better maybe. most of the time the preview still disappears.
it kind of blows my mind why this isnt a huge priority. for the developers.
these are the features that will make HA go ‘mainstream’. ease of use easily triples with a live preview editor.
its wild.
