I was going to replace a switch so I could light up my backyard and I didn’t realize that the switch had no neutral wire to power the Z wave device. What have you done to solve this issue if it’s solvable?
I payed an electrician to pull a neutral to the box
Zwave switches & dimmers are available that don’t require a neutral. The work by not completely turning off the circuit, and so the downside is that some LED lights may dimly flicker when they are supposed to be off.
GE switch that doesn’t require a neutral:

If you have flickering issues, wire in a bypass load:
Where does it say it does not require a neutral? It has a neutral post. @mekaneck
I’ve used a Hue smart bulb instead. Put a switch protector over the existing switch (to prevent it from being easily turned off), and then mounted a battery powered hue smart switch.
Sorry that was the wrong link. Here is the GE version that does t require a neutral, but is currently out of stock. There are other brands that offer the same functionality though:
Edit: here is the Innovelli option, but also out of stock:
I can’t find anything. I’m gonna try and get a neutral pulled.
