Before we begin, here’s my setup:
- Philips 32" TV (non-Android) with HDMI in from
- Google TV Streamer
- TV also has 3.5mm headphone jack for audio out leading to
- Sonos Play 5 (1st gen - left on at full volume. Effectively a dumb speaker)
The volume is DISABLED on the Philips TV (this is the only way I can stop the TV and speaker playing at the same time). So the TV is silent. All audio comes out of the speaker. This is what I wanted.
The Google TV Streamer remote setting for ‘Volume Control’ has three options:
- Auto (CEC) (This doesn’t work as when you try to control vol with GTV remote is says 'TV Speakers are disabled on TV GUI)
- Google TV Streamer (Which is what I use)
- Philips TV (IR) (This is completely disabled on the GTV GUI)
I can control the volume fine with the GTV remote, volume level appears on left hand side of TV. All good, right?
With Google Home app (Android) I can control the TV volume.
What’s weird is when I look for a volume entity so I can control it via HA, there isn’t one - all I can do is turn GTV on, off, or toggle.
Am I missing something here?
ps Yes I have tried different settings on the TV and muting it so I can still have audio out on the speaker.
