"Node Presumably Dead" after light switch is turned off manually

Hi all!

I am quite a newbie when it comes to Zwave and HA. I installed one light switch (Linear WD500Z) and the Aeotec Gen 5 Zwave stick. I can set all the dimmer/switch functions with HA. Unfortunately, once I set the switch manually, AH does not update the state of the Switch. If the switch is “On” I don’t get any errors. But once the switch is “Off” I get the “Node Presumably dead” error.

It seems to poll according to my configuration file. I have also been resetting the stick, removing the node either through HA, OpenZwave and with the stick. I tried to add a Network key, too.

Do any of you have any input? This would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This doesn’t seem like normal behaviour. When i press the button on one of my Z-Wave plugs by hand, the status is updated correctly.

Can you try with a different switch?

Not right now, I only bought one to test things out. At some point in the last weeks while I installed HA many times over and over (because of this and other problems) I encountered the normal behavior (detecting light switch status). But I started over with a fresh system and don’t know what I did right that time.

Try moving your controller closer to the switch. As you only have one switch, the message probably isn’t reaching the controller and is timing out, hence the presumed dead notification

I will try that.
There is also a power setting in the open Z-Wave Control Panel. What does that do? Could I increase the power of the receiver or transmitter?

I’ve tried before to adjust the power setting, but never got it to work, but let me know if you do

Yeah, taking it closer and playing with the power settings didn’t do anything. :frowning:

How close is the controller now? The polling really shouldn’t have anything to do with the error message from the node (at least that is my understading). The controller is seeing the node as dead because it isn’t getting a reply from the node. Depending on how far away the controller is (assuming that it isn’t right next to the switch), you may want to consider getting a repeater/lamp module to act an additional node to expand the range of the mesh network. Also, when you start up OZWCP, does it reflect that the secure key has been added? I remember that there were two config files that I needed to add the key too before it accepted the key

Yeah, I had the controller right next to the switch. So I assume that is not the problem. I only added a key to one .config file. I looked for it for quite a while. Maybe I found the wrong one.

Maybe try initializing OZWCP and see if you are getting a message saying that it accepted the secure key. That would be the only other reason I’ve found for the dead node error
