Not getting a response from the maintainer of python-overseerr

Dear Home Assistant maintainers,

I’ve been working on adding new features to the Overseerr integration in Home Assistant and opened a PR in the core repository for this. During that work, I discovered that a few small changes were also required in the underlying python-overseerr library. As a result, I opened two small PRs there (#1 and #2).

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get a response from the maintainer, @joostlek, and I’m currently blocked from continuing work on the Home Assistant PR because of this.

For context, here is the timeline of what I’ve done so far:

  • Oct 30, 2025: Opened a PR in the Home Assistant core repository. While working on it, I added a few necessary features to the underlying library. Joost was automatically pinged as the code owner of the integration.
  • Nov 05, 2025: Opened PR #1 in python-overseerr (pinging Joost).
  • Nov 23, 2025: Opened PR #2 in python-overseerr (pinging Joost).
  • Nov 23, 2025: Followed up by pinging Joost again in PR #1.
  • Dec 17, 2025: Reached out to Joost via email. Never got a response.

At this point, I’ve been blocked by these pending PRs for quite some time and am unsure how to proceed. I completely understand that maintainers are busy, but I’m running out of options and would like to get that feature merged in the near future.

Would it be possible for someone to help by pinging him internally, or to advise me on alternative ways to move forward (e.g. another maintainer reviewing or taking over the PRs)?

Thank you very much for your time and help.

Cheers,
Felix

Fork it and make a third party integration. That way you get complete control.

According to: Overseerr - Home Assistant

There are 2 maintainers, perhaps @AmGarera can help you?

In the worst case become a maintainer yourself for this integration
or indeed fork it.

That’s a sub-optimal outcome for HA as a whole though since it splinters the functionality.

Yes, I thought so too. And in this case I would have to publish the package to pip myself, find a new name for it, change the imports in HA core. That’s not how open source collaborate software should work (imo).

I don’t know if can do that as a review from the current code owner is required. However, maybe another maintainer could overwrite this.

As @joostlek is a very active member as seen on his Github profile I think the way to proceed would be to somehow get his attention.

I think you probably just need to wait more. Core PRs often take 6 months or more to merge or even to get started with initial reviews.

Probably joostlek gets 1000 pings a day. I’d be confident that he will get to it eventually, but you just need to have realistic expectations that sometimes things take longer than a month or two.

In the meantime we’ve had contact on Discord. I am generally all over the place and my attention span can be short
