Nothing out from HA Voice from Music Assistant

Here’s the software versions - Home Assistant OS Core 2025.12.5
Supervisor 2025.12.3
Operating System 16.3
Frontend 20251203.3

Music Assistant Server 2.7.2

Home Assistant Voice PE Firmware: 25.12.1 (ESPHome 2025.12.1)

So… I’m not sure when this started happening, because I haven’t used it in a while and there have been various updates since last successful use.

In MA I have “Bedroom 2 Media Player - Home Assistant Media Players” and that’s what I was using before. However, nothing now comes out of it when it is supposed to be playing. Also, when I execute a script that was fine before, it now says that shuffle is not a valid feature.

A new player has popped up which I have renamed Bedroom 2 Sendspin Player - Sendspin players" … and that works… however I can’t reference it in automation scripts, so I can’t control it outside of Music Assistant.

I’ve tried removing the device and re-adding it, but the situation remains. I’ve checked the volumes, etc. and that’s all fine. I just can’t work out why I get no audio from MA when using the HAVoice player and fine via the Sendspin.

I wouldn’t be too fussed if I could access the sendspin in scripts, but this is driving me nuts.

It does seem to have its knickers in a twist. I’ve removed the device, but MA still thinks there are devices there. The HA player and Sendspin players are still showing despite also deleting them from the Home Assistant providers area in MA and rebooting. I can’t seem to get MA to recognise that those devices aren’t there any more, and I can’t find where to delete things that I’ve already deleted. I can seemingly only disable them within MA.

Now this is bonkers. I’ve removed the Voice device but the sendspin player is still actually WORKING. It is still sending music to the device. Of course, the other player was unavailable… although I have since been given the option to delete it now.

Argh. This is driving me nuts.

Admin… please delete this. I give up.

The issue is you have updated stuff without reading the changes involved.

Sendspin is new protacol setup for multiroom audio. Not sure how it works on VPE as I don’t have them although I do use it on my DIY media players.

It may be worth reading the docs or just not updating your VPE.

That’s not the issue. The sendspin is in addition to what was working before, but now isn’t. The media player presented by the Home Assistant Voice, and Music Assistant saying it’s playing to it, while nothing comes out of the speaker. In this case the sendspin was included to evidence that the fundamentals of the system do work… ie it’s capable of playing. Just not through the usual way of addressing it.

Check that the media player name has not changed, as I believe it may have done.

But you will get far more answers if you ask this on the music assistant discord channel as that’s where everyone who is testing these new setups are asking questions.

I can not advise as I have no VPE devices, I can only guess.

Thanks. I’ve deleted and re-added it, and tidied up residue and checked names as much as I can… but even using the MA GUi it doesn’t want to play.

I have asked questions in the MA forum before and sometimes I’ve got somewhere, sometimes I’ve got nowhere. They are part of home assistant, but they’re not. eg. when I had problems feeding to home assistant players, I was told that they were abandoning that in favour of players through MA… so if they think that what I want to achieve doesn’t match with their vision, I stand little hope. But it is what it is, and if you’re not a developer, then there is little choice but to go with where they want to go. That’s just life.

Sendspin players seem to add via discovery

They don’t use HA media player provider. If sendspin is enabled in MA the sendspin player will automatically register and show. The MA >< HA connection is weird so Im still not sure how/when players show in HA.

If you have HAVPE firmware that includes sendspin they will basically show in MAMA without your input

The esp players in MA regardless of how they are added seem to occasionally lose connection and need reset. My experience but haven’t checked in’s while. I actually created a button in HA that resets my 9 devices.

MA is under active development. Not an excuse but just telling reality. If you have HAVPE it works well but I think occasionally reset may be needed. Many things are marked alpha and beta which screams “be patient if you plan to use”.

I don’t speak for the trees so take what I put with grain of salt. I expect things to calm and be more stable by June(this is an W.A.G).
