Hi friends! I have been wanting to set up notifications for occasional chores like laundry and nail trimming, but I find that no matter what, at some point they just feel like noise and I inevitably stop being triggered by them. Have you had any success in long term notifications like this? Thanks!
I have three telegram groups I send notifications to:
System
General
NVR
Important notifications like system errors or alarms go to the System group. It has a loud and annoying alert tone.
The General group gets day to day items like reminders, forecasts and energy summaries, it has a softer alert tone.
The NVR group is muted. I can just look back though security photos if I need to.
For all three groups the messages are kept for one month before being automatically deleted. So even if I ignore a reminder at the time it occurs it will still be there unread in the General group until the next time I look at the telegram app.
I use the HA Companion App notifications grouped into:
Alarms - fire, flood, power outage, etc.
Warnings - low battery, doors open after dark, etc.
Notifications - door bell, etc.
I keep my regular repeating events in Google Calendar with the appropriate notification set within the calendar event.
Though it’s not geared specifically to home automation, there are some good general recommendations in this article: The Risks of Alert Fatigue
