Leaving this here, in case anyone out there has the same need as I had (which lead to the creation of this hacs integration):
It lets you create a occupancy duration helper, that tracks motion/presence/occupancy sessions based on a linked motion sensor, especially for people that have sensors that dont track occupancy
I know there’s way bigger integrations like Area Occupancy Detection etc.pp. out there, but they were either too big or didnt solve my specific issue.
What was my issue? Well, pooping & music:
Occupancy Duration Helper is a Home Assistant custom integration that turns motion and presence signals into persistent occupancy sessions with duration tracking, configurable stages, and adaptive decay.
I wanted to play music on the toilet, but only when actually pooping, so a fade-in starts only when a longer visit reaches the configured long stage. I also wanted music and ventilation while showering, but not when someone only enters briefly to wash their hands. This integration makes those use cases easy by listening to a motion sensor and tracking the session over time according to the configured stage profile.
Exactly what I am looking for since long to not to have to fiddle anymore with scripts, timers etc. to get this done.
However, after installing Occupancy Duration Helper through HACS, restarting HA and adding a first PIR Sensor through “Integrations” (config flow) I can see additional “Helpers”. But I am unable to reconfigure any settings since Occupancy Duration Helper is not visible through Settings → Devices & services.
Consequently I can not provide diagnostics through HA -> Settings → Devices & services → Occupancy Duration Helper → Download diagnostics either.
Additionally there is no entity for xxx_stages with Settings -> Tools -> States. Hence no automations based on above entity is possible.
Sorry for the late reply. While I have installed the integration and have configured it for one room (yet) to collect some data I have not found the time to dig deeper into it’s possibilities. I will try to do this the coming weekend
