I don’t understand the negative remark from even moderators about this topic and so pilled on.
This is a glaring hole that would allow the same functionality as mobile companion apps and it appears to be on macOS already.
Push Notifications (synced with all client/mobile apps)
Sensors from the machine, now accessible in HA
WoL / wake up on network
Custom Sounds and Notifications
Local network access to HA servers
I would use it for customizable sounds galore with notifications solely in AI type responses from TTS like Piper. Ring had a native app and then got rid of ii. This was a major disservice because I had it running even on Windows clients and servers to bring in customizable zone sounds (Someone is ringing the doorbell at the front door, spoken) and snapshot images on real-time events like door ring and motion from devices. It had synced cross-platform notifications and real-time clickable access to mobile and local NVR. HA today could link to Scrypted or Frigate on powerful desktop PC’s AND doing it locally with a server machine running Frigate on a 10GB network.
It’s really only limited by your imagination everything you are missing out on by not having a Official Client for Windows; it is completely absurd.
Its capabilities in my opinion were so far ahead of the web apps, it’s really not a discussion and we are talking about a apps from many years ago lol. Make it better. Make it secure. Make it customizable and sync across all platforms. The only reason I saw it go was upsell, upsell, upsell, pay-wall, pay-wall, pay-wall all with less features like when Ring now doesn’t store its sounds in the cloud making you go to every client to customize them AND then each app can have different versions and get despreciated which SOMEHOW gives Ring the idea to remove free sound files on certain platforms and you lose MAJOR features. They remove the customizable zone alerts that mattered.
Don’t get me wrong I love web apps but they just aren’t on the same level even. So own it, merge them all.
The mobile apps you cite are separate applications that are Community supported apps separate from HA at least to start.
If you wrote something that worked that is the way to start.
Things like this seldom if ever start at Nabu-Casa, they start in the Community.
