OpenClaw for Home Assistant — a small AI assistant

I’ve been publishing apps for Chinese Home Assistant users for a while. A friend from overseas couldn’t read the Chinese version and asked if I could put out an English one — so here it is.

There’s already plenty of discussion about what OpenClaw can do, so I’ll skip the introduction and get straight to getting started.

One thing worth saying before you begin:
Don’t treat OpenClaw like a chat companion. It has a brain — use it. Ask it to do things: analyze an error, set up an automation, check your devices. The moment you start giving it tasks instead of just talking to it, you’ll see what it’s actually for.

Two steps, two minutes, AI working for you

Step 1 — Add the repository and install OpenClaw

Add to Home Assistant

Then find and install OpenClaw in the app store.

Step 2 — Set up an AI model

Open the panel, go to Settings, pick a model and add your API key. Without a model, the AI has no brain — this step is what brings it to life.

Then just open Chat and start giving it things to do.

Give it a try, and feel free to share feedback or suggestions below.

The term Add-on has been changed to Apps some months ago now. Continuing to refer to them as add-ons confuses users when they cannot figure out how to install your software. I suggest a bit of editing to correct this.

You are right. I have made the necessary modifications
