OpenZWave problem

I have two HA devices running. One of them is for ZWave devices. This HA failed and I am setting up a new one. I decided to setup and use OpenZWave.

I added mqtt entries to my configuration.yaml file and specified IP address of my primary HA device.
I added OpenZWave add-on from Add-on store.
I added OpenZWave in Configuration - Integrations.

After I rebooted HA, I do not see how to add and manage ZWave devices. Was it moved to another location and I cannot find it or something did not go right?

I use Aeotec Z-Stick Gen 5.

Enable the addon “show on sidebar” or open the “open webui” from supervisor page, thats most easy.

When I open it, I see the following. After I click on Open button, I cannot use my mouse. It is not there.

Do I have to start it manually? The port is not configured anywhere, do I have to configure it somewhere? Will I have to start it every time when I want to manage ZWave?

I configured OpenZWave Admin and I am able to connect. I see my devices in the Admin app, but I do not see them in my HA. How do I add them to my HA?

The mouse thing is a known issue… you can set a pprt and connect via vnc, works best for me. Ozw admin is also option.

If you include a device it should be auto populated in homeassistant…

If you go to configuration - integrations - openzwave what does it say? Number of devices and entities?

I see all my devices in admin. When I go to Integration, I cannot click on OpenZWave, it just not clickable. This is new HA and I do not have any devices or ZWave entities if I go to Configuration and click on Devices or Entities.

Actually, maybe the problem is that I see devices that were added in my previous HA that failed. I will try to remove nodes in OZW admin and add them back. Maybe this helps.

I removed one of the nodes and added it back. It did not help. I do not see any ZWave devices in my HA.

I tried to add it as encrypted and not encrypted with the same results. Log shows me the following.

In OpenZWave add-on I added the network key, but it does not offer me to enter it anywhere when I add a new node.

try to remove the integration and do add it again…

Remove integration and add-on or just integration?

Is there anything else that I have to do on HA after I added integration with OpenZWave? Is everything else should be done using VNC?

there are multiple options, I am not the expert here. just trying to help. I would start with removing just the integration. And then add it back. If that does not help I would try to add Mosquitto broker addon and try again

Thank you @sender, I really appreciate your help. I will try it.

Nothing helps. I deleted everything and reinstalled. I do not have any ZWave devices. Neither Z-Stick nor switches.

Anyone?

Can you see anything in the log of the addon?

The logs that I posted above are from addon when I tried to add node 25.

Have you installed the mosquitto addon?

Maybe read this

Yes, I had it installed.

I decided to remove OpenZWave and go with standard ZWave configuration. Everything works now.

Thank you for your help!

Also not an expert, but if you decide to try again I want to make sure you had it set up properly.

Your main device should have the MQTT broker running (mosquito integration is good).

Both devices should have the MQTT integration configured. Both should be configured to look at the same IP address (the local IP address of your main HA device (which is running the MQTT broker)).

The device with the USB dongle is where you install the OoenZwave Add-On. The add-on, to my knowledge, looks for the MQTT integration and let’s it handle all of the communication with the other device(s).

Hope that helps, and I hope I’m correct with at least some if it.

One last thing, once it’s up and running. There are a few ways to access the z-wave control panel. My favorite is https://github.com/OpenZWave/ozw-admin/releases. In the OpenZwave add-on config under “network”, fill in a port for ozw-admin. I use the default 1983. After running the above application on your computer, point it to the IP address of the device running the OpenZwave add-on.

@hotelmode, thank you for your reply. I believe that that is exactly how it was configured.

I tried both, OZW-Admin and VNC to manage it. Both of the apps saw the same devices, but HA did not see any.
