Opinions - simple light meter?

I all, I have solar and would love a little light in my office that changes color when I’m selling (producing excess) vs. buying. For example, oh I’m selling? I should plug my EV in, etc.

I can of course always just get a regular lightbulb and that would work. But I was wondering if there were any other cool small devices (e.g., a little stock ticker? a small LED light? etc?) that people may suggest for this idea.

I considered making a servo on a Pi that lifted a sun when it was selling, but figured the 3D printing is more hassle than it’s worth :joy:

Just happy to hear everyone’s creative ideas.

This project could be of use as well for a tracking implementation from a quick look up

Many esphome dev boards have RGB-LED onboard.
Or get one with small display and print your energy use with different colors according to import/export.

There’s custom firmware for this that works with home assistant:

See:AWTRIX 3 And Search results for 'AWTRIX #projects' - Home Assistant Community

Or the LaMetric works natively with home assistant:

Agree.

And then you use this animated gif (or half of it) for stacking money when selling, and money leaving when buying.

That clock is really nice… but quite the price for a screen clock!

A quick follow up. I got the ULANZI, did the AWTRIX firmware, created a bunch of custom flows… even went and patched the firmware. Fun project.

Its a great device, thanks for all the tips
