Have been having issues trying to cast music to a google mini speaker so am looking for options to replace it. Not looking for a “smart” speaker per se as I don’t need to talk to it, just want something reliable I can cast music from (typically have been using the Tidal app to cast using chromecast). I do have Music Assistant configured and working so it’s fine if I need to use that in the companion app to start the music. Anyone had any luck replacing google? This is for our bathroom speaker so doesn’t have to have great sound quality or anything fancy.
I don’t cast music but only notifications, I’m using a Xiaomi clock hacked to run ViewAssist companion app that turned it in a small nightstand dashboard and speaker
Casting to google speakers (and probably most speakers) requires secure access from the cloud. Self Signed certs are not accepted. Nabu-Casa works or you will have to set something up with third party integrations.
Changing the speaker might not help.
Since you use music assistant HA voice PE works well with that and uses the sendspin implementation
Waveshare S3 Ai voice device can use sendspin but hardware limits its function as both voice assistant and sendspin player simultaneously. If you only need music it is low cost and will work great.
I do have a PE that we use in the kitchen for timers and stuff, but the speaker on it isn’t sufficient for music, and it’s a little pricey.

I also have a random Google mini that I use with a handful of Chromecast Audios. Unless yours is just defective, it should be working just fine with Tidal directly or via MA (what I use) and would make me question whether it’s a WiFi issue.
It had been working fine for years and then recently started having issues. Did a factory reset a couple of times and was able to get it to connect again, but that only lasted a couple of days. Certainly possible that it’s wifi but the router still shows it as being connected. It’s like 10 years old so I’m not super surprised for it to be having issues at this point. At any rate I’ve been working to get rid of the google devices (they’re currently muted anyway) as they’ve been gradually losing features over the years, and I haven’t made the switch from Assistant to Gemini on my phone. Basically just trying to go local for everything now, though I know that’s not 100% possible when trying to use chromecast.
