OT Thing - An OpenTherm-WiFi Gateway with integrated OT master & slave

Hello Stefan,

Could you explain the OTC more? Is it working in Repeater mode?

Hi Stefan, great project and very nice box, where did you get it?

It is for master mode, and it is used for the status byte sent to the boiler:

What the boiler is doing with it depends on the manufacture’s implementation.

Hi sounds like a great piece of hardware.

I’m a “victim” of the Google update for their older nest thermostat. So I’m in the market for a new solution.
The one and only demand I have is that I need to have an old school thermostat in the living room.
Can I possibly re use my old nest thermostat for that use? (And will it then show the actual and demanded temperature, also when changed via ha?)
If I can’t reuse my old thermostat which one would you recommend?

Thanks in advance

I think this could work, but if the demanded temperature will be shown by the nest depends heavilly on it’s implementation. There are OpenTherm commands available to override setpoint via the bus, but I can’t tell if Nest uses those.

v2.14 is available

If nest wouldn’t work, which thermostat would you recommend to work?

Would be great to set temperature via HA and also via thermostat, and see the desired temperature (also both set via ha and/or thermostat)

I see the board is out of stock now. When it will be available again?

Also has anyone tested it with De Dietrich boilers, especially MCR3 line (+AD289 controller) or much older “MCR1” e.g. MCR24?

will be available in 1-2 weeks.

for sure setting the setpoint from HA and from roomunit will always work. displaying setpoint: only supplier can tell.

Hi!

I just received the board and I’m still setting it up and getting to know it. I see that it has generated several entities in Home Assistant, and the one for DHW is a climate type. Wouldn’t it make more sense to create a water_heater type? Would that be possible in another firmware version?

The water_heater control is not working here because it does not (yet) support value templates as OTthing sends all values in a single JSON message.

Thank you for your reply and your work. Now, I’m testting the Ot Thing. I think I’ve configured it correctly for my environment, but it never turns off the boiler. It always stays on. Where can we follow up on this? Should I write it here, or open an issue on GitHub?

github is fine!

A small batch of OTthing is available again!
Also firmware v2.18 is uploaded to github.

firmware v2.19 is available on github!
