Doesn’t work. In the API Explorer, you just get an error: “No permissions. Your subscription to the cloud development plan has expired.” So basically, once it expires, you can pretty much forget about Local Tuya because you can’t set it up again.
fyi -I renewed my trial for 6 mths, the response got turned around in about 5 mins … and everything back working again
FYI… this integration works even if you have IOT core expired and it is very reliable.
This hit the spot! Thanks!!
Sorry to necro an old thread, but I found my way here after my Tuya IoT Core sub expired recently.
What I didn’t see mentioned clearly here is the problem isn’t the expired sub stopping any previously registered devices from working with the integration being used. Once you’ve loaded the device ID and local key, they will work forever more. My Tuya devices are blocked from the internet after initial registration - IoT Core is NOT required for ongoing use.
The problem is adding more devices.
Without IoT Core, you can’t query the API in Tuya’s console to get any new device details. Critically, this means you can’t get the local key, which all of these integrations require, even for local-only network use.
As others have pointed out, extending the sub is trivial, and Tuya just extended mine on a Saturday afternoon within about an hour, so I’m able to get the local key for a new device I’m adding today.
Also, as a backup measure, I’ve gotten into the habit of storing every device ID and local key, so I can easily add them later on. That way, if I ever delete them or start fresh with a different integration, I don’t need to use the Tuya console to re-retrieve those details.
Just in case this helps future searchers…
If I were you, I’d give serious consideration to migrating to a new technology. Tuya is the perfect example of why one should eschew cloud based devices. Cheap cost of entry but cost of ownership is much higher.
On the other extreme is DIY. Very inexpensive to implement, but ongoing support by the Y (in DIY) is a lot.
I don’t know much about Matter, but the promise is that it doesn’t have to be cloud based or beholden to one manufacturer. Promises.
good luck!
This is an individual value proposition, IMHO. To me, renewing a free sub once every 6 months - only when I happen to add a new device of a particular type to my setup - isn’t a very big cost at all.
Home automation is about fitness for purpose, and everyone’s purpose varies. Home Assistant is the glue that lets us bind all these things together.
Came here after receiving the email my trial expired. Looks like my localtuya devices are still working due to the local ip and device info. My steam room and steam shower from SteamCore use Tuya so I have no choice but to use it, but working great so far still!
