Overview tab disappears when default dashboard is selected

Hi,
on pc when I select default dashboard, I retain access to the Overview tab in the sidebar. On android doing the same removes the tab. I would like to retain access to this tab on android as well without it being the 1st tab I see. I only found this topic with no replies Overview dashboard disappear.

Thanks for any suggestion.

this is HA frontend behavior, the app does not control it. Have you tried editing the sidebar once you set the default dashboard to see if you can add back Overview?

Apologies if I misunderstand, but if it was the default behaviour it would do what I want.

on pc:

  1. open ha 1st time see Overview
  2. change to different default dashboard
  3. open HA again, see the chosen dashboard, with Overview still in sidebar

on android:

  1. open ha 1st time see Overview
  2. change to different default dashboard
  3. open HA again, see the chosen dashboard, Overview disappeared from sidebar

Where would I edit the sidebar? The only thing related to sidebar I found is an option Show in sidebar for every custom dashboard, however it is not present for Overview dashboard.

from the profile menu there is an edit sidebar option, alternatively in the app open sidebar and long press the top

I found it, but the Overview tab just ceases to exist on Android.

on pc:

on android:

Desktop being my custom dashbard

may want to check open frontend issues as the app does not control that list. You can do a quick test too by checking the side bar using chrome for android on teh same device, most likely will look the same.

Indeed ha in browser on android does what I want I will check the frontend issues.

I’ve found this issue Changing default dashboard hides original default dashboard · Issue #11069 · home-assistant/frontend · GitHub, but it’s 1 year old with no progress. Added my report in nonetheless.

As advised in the github thread there is apparently an undocumented feature, that auto fills empty dashboard with w/e would be in Overview. I tested it on Android and it works.

Add new dashboard, name it and do not do anything else with it.
Then visit it via sidebar and it will show what would be in Overview tab.

+1 This is still an issue…

I did find a cumbersome workaround: On any dashboard > Menu > Edit Dashboard > Menu > Manage Dashboards > Open the Overview dashboard by clicking the pop-out button.

+1 Still an issue.

This is still an issue, right?

I still have the issue on my Android phone. As a workaround I keep a link in Chrome to the overview dash so I can always access it that way.

This issue is still unsolved and the suggested Workaround does not work any more either.

the overview tab is supposed to disappear when you select a default dashboard, that is a frontend feature and not app specific.

If it’s a feature than there should be a toggle somewhere to disable it. I want my Home Control dashboard as default but still have access to the Overview. The Overview is awesome since it adds new stuff automatically and has the entire system in one place. Took getting use to but I’ve grown to like it.

I’m not a programmer but wish I was because I hate changes to a UI once gotten use to. I’m a hardware person.

Thank you for your awesome Automaton Hub. The more I read the more I see everything is possible. Your only limited by your imagination unless you use mobile apps, than your limited by material design programmers.

+1 For Adding a dashboard called Overview, there is an option for adding a UI Controlled dashboard and it seams to be about the same. Will keep trying it.

It organized things a little different, I’m assuming because things were added in the order they were detected when the original was built but this time all devices were already there.

So, it’s still posable with the original workaround or with the ability of creating a UI Controlled dashboard with whatever name you want it can be called the main stream way of doing it, I guess.

I am also wondering why aren’t we allowed to keep Overview dashboard when selecting another default one.

This is a little bit bonkers. The idea that because you want to see a different screen first that you lose another one forever - it makes no sense whatsoever.

I was able to see all of my tabs by setting subview to false on the main Overview tab. I did this in the “Raw Configurator Editor” that is found in the triple dot menu in the top right when you enable edit mode
