PebbleBee Tracking in Bermuda BLE

Has anyone had any luck getting PebbleBee tags to work in Bermuda BLE Trilateration?

I have a spare PebbleBee tag (PB-801-S Universal) that I want to be able to track around my property to complete location based automations. It was originally purchased with the intent to go in a piece of luggage but I haven’t traveled much this year. I’m hoping to repurpose it for this task if I can.

I was able to find the device by its MAC address within Bermuda but the entity almost immediately went to “Away” status and I haven’t been able to see it again.

I’ve been reading the forums suggesting that devices that randomize their MAC address or act within the FMD network will not reliably track withing HA. Is this true of these PebbleBee tags as well, is this why it found my tag once but it is now set to ‘away’?

If this device will not work for active tracking with Bermuda what attributes should I be looking for in a BLE tag that can be tracked? iBeacon? Fixed MAC address?

TIA

I believe Pebblebee tags use Apple’s Find My or Google’s Find Hub, in which case I think they probably do rotate their BLE identifier. (As I understand it, this is not the same as randomised MAC addresses, which is what phones do.)

I personally use Tile tags with Bermuda, which don’t. They’re detected easily and track movement round the house very well. You have to have a Tile account to activate them, but once they’re working you can delete the app, so Tile won’t be able to track you directly.

You should be aware though that Tile have a network like the Air Tag one (only much smaller). This means that if you pass another Tile user in the street their app will collect your location. The network is very much smaller than Apple’s, though. I live in a small town in the UK and it seems to happen about twice a week.
