Following these two links, I created a new group called “family” a put my dad on that group, so that he can only manage (turn on/off) some entities when he comes home when we are away:

Added my dad to that group:
I save the file via the code editor but when I restart HA, the auth file is back to its previous version without the new group or my dad added to it.
Any ideas why this happens?
Hi Marco, I’ve recently started setting up something alike, but I faced different problems.
Did you edit this user using the UI after adding the new group on the auth file? I made a few tests and noticed after rebooting my manually added group config is still there, but if I change anything using HA UI, all the params for the user are overwritten.
You have to stop homeassistant to modify this file. I connect my instance to ssh, and write ha core stop. Modify the file and save. Thern ha core start and works. Regards
