'Phantom' notifications

Good morning, brains trust.

I’ve suddenly started getting what seem like random notifications from ‘Testing 1 2 3’ to my phone with the content ‘This is a test message’

I’m not aware of setting any notification or automation that does this, and I cannot find it in the logs. Suggestions of how I can track this down?

It seems to have started on Friday and they seem pretty random (for example I had two in the small hours of this morning at 0254 and 0257 when we were all tucked up in bed and the house was pretty much shut down.

If I click on the notification it just takes me to the app.

Currently running Core 2026.1.1 on HAOS 16.3 Running bare metal on a Synology VM

Phone is 16e running 26.2.1 As far as I know my wife (same phone set up) does not get these notifications

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Did you install a blueprint or a HACS integration in the last week?

I did
View Assistant blueprints, but that was on Monday, oh and the HACS integrations associated. None of those should be sending messages to my phone app, however, at least as far as I can tell!

Hmm, maybe check the activity log?
Can you check the history of the automations that send out notifications (traces)

Indeed! Absolutely was my first starting point.

The activity log shows my Ring cameras turning ‘off’ apparently. I assume the integration had an issue. But that should not send a random notification that I can see.

Traces appears to be telling me something, though! Thanks for the pointer

Got it! Thanks so much, I have no idea where that came from. Must have left it when I was testing something.

Turned off now

Yes indeed. Little odd (to me) that sending a notification to a specific device is not regarded as worth of an entry in the Activity log, or indeed the other logs when I searched, but getting the idea now :slight_smile:
