Philips RWL021 recent changes?

Hi all,

I’ve been using a Philips RWL021 four button remote for years. I’ve written my own blueprint for it which I also use for two RWL022 remotes. Until yesterday, that worked. Every once in a while it would drop off the network but a reconfigure or reset would solve that. It seems that something changed very recently since it no longer emits the same commands. I reset it because it didn’t switch my lights, but when I dived deeper I found that it no longer sends the same Zigbee commands as before. I used to be able to trigger on events such as “Remote Button Short Release - Turn On” . The RWL022 still sends these commands when short pressing the top button. If I do the same on the RWL021 it just sends an “On” event. More probematically, it sends this event on double press or triple press too, which is very annoying since I use those a lot.

Did anyone else run in to this problem? Is there a firmware update/downdate I need? Current firmware is 0x43007305.

Thanks, Allard

Hi,

I do not use blueprint, but I do use the Philips RWL021 and have no issues with it.
As far as I know there were recently no firmware updates.

That interface does not look familiar. Are you on Zigbee2MQTT? I’m using ZHA, perhaps there’s something wrong with the device handler?

Correct. I’m on Zigbee2MQTT.
I don’t use ZHA.

Hi, had problem after changing batteri in my rwl021. After reset it sended wrong commands when looking into ZHA. This was in HA 2026.2.1. Yesterday it was fixed in 2026.2.2. Now it works again
