I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on called PiperTTS Mockingbird.
My goal was to democratize local AI. I love the speed and privacy of the Piper engine, but I noticed it can be a bit intimidating if you aren’t a software engineer. I wanted to build something so that “average” people can set up great local text-to-speech without any technical headaches.
Why check it out?
Zero-Config Setup: Double-click a file and it just works. It handles the Python environment, dependencies, and engine downloads for you.
Runs on a Potato: It’s incredibly lightweight. It’ll run on a Raspberry Pi 4, old laptops, or even budget desktops.
Privacy First: 100% local. Your text never leaves your computer.
Built-in Integrations: I’ve included a Chrome Extension (read any webpage) and a Google Docs add-on.
