Playlist Display Not Updating in Music Assistant

(I have posted this before but I think in the wrong location.)

I am seeing an issue in Music Assistant with the Playlist screen behavior. The playlist advances from song to song but the screen does not update. Also, the track time keeps accumulating. It doesn’t matter if you have shuffle enabled or not.
The playlist is from a File System remote share.

I am seeing this same issue. I have tried different configuration settings for inserting track info into stream, it does not matter. I am using a file system remote share as well.

I forgot to include in the previous post. This is also shown in the media player that I am playing on. Current song is the first one in the cue and it never changes, but the song time does change. It is like a single stream without any track update is being sent to the player, even when I set it to do so. I count on being able to retrieve this info about current track, album, and artist and that is not currently working.

Same here.
Today I have integrated YouTube Music as the music provider and after it played some songs of the playlist the current playtime time is getting updated but not the current track.
When clicking on the next track icon, it then continues with the song after the song that was displayed (which was the first song I started with, so the second song was played instead of the song that should come after the actually played song).
Didn’t check other music providers yet.

Home Assistant is up-to-date:

  • Core 2025.1.4
  • Supervisor 2024.12.3
  • Operating System 14.2
  • Frontend 20250109.2

And also Music Assistant is up-to-date:

  • Music Assistant 2.3.6

Hi everyone,
Same here.
I am currently working on a media player using openhasp on a 4" display and the media title attribute from the media player doesn’t change for Artist, Album or Playlist sources. A similar problem is when playing a track, its plays to the end and then repeats playing the last 5 seconds or so of the track.

The problem appears to have been fixed, many thanks.

Problem seems to be fixed when manually switch tracks with the >> button.
But I’m still stuck to the 1st track of the playlist when you let the music plays without touching anything.

HA up to date & Music 2.3.6

Same here, drives me nuts. Has anyone found a solution yet. I also show current tracl playing on my ulanzi clock which is now also stuck on the same song as Music Assistant doesn’t update to the current song playing.

Similar issue with Spotify I think.

  • Playing playlist. Here the track is switching in the MA ui.
  • When selecting pause the playback stops and the MA UI (Player) returns to the track which I startet with play button.
  • No way to continue where it stoped.

My setup is latest MA and HA, player is a fully kiosk player on a android device added via HA provider to MA.

Have also some issues with the playback over time, as it stops after some time. Perhaps fully kiosk device is not available and the issue above does not allow any workaround to continue the playback with an automation.

I have a similar problem.

My album art is not updating. The song time increments as if it was one big song. The name of the song being played is not updating, but the playlist is playing through the songs.

I have Music Assistant setup with Apple Music and YouTube Music. Both providers have the same problem when playing playlists.

Anyone else with the same problem?

Running 2.4.4 on HA 2025.3.1 and I seem to have the same problem reported here and elsewhere. The Now Playing and queue don’t update from the first song played, unless I use FF before the first song ends. Otherwise the display stays on the first song and nothing in the queue moves from the Queue to Played lists. This happens with both my Sonos and Squeezebox devices. I’m relatively new to MA and find it both very promising, and very frustrating. I hope it’s just something simple I’m doing wrong since it is unusable for me with this issue.

Is there any update on this - anyone found a workaround ?

ive got spotify, using snapserver to snapclient over the network.

playlists work for a while, then go into this single track timeline and the track repeats itself - but the display shows different songs… stop/play/different playlist doesnt seem to change it.

i had to stop the music, clear the Queue, then play a new playlist… that worked but not ideal.

Had this problem too with a Qobuz playlist streaming to a UPnP / DLNA player (Moode).

I seem to have a workaround which was in the settings for the UPnP player, “Enable Queue Flow Mode” was on.

So I disabled it, and restarted Music Assistant - and now the playlist is proceeding normally.

This seems to be opposite to the advice in the documentation, so it might just be specific to the above combo.

Same problem here. MA v2.5.2 HA Core 2025.3.4
When I start a playlist, the song details are displayed, but it never updates as songs continue. I am using Squeezelite players. Tried enabling the “Enable Queue Flow Mode” that didnt solve it.

same issue, no fix in sight? or at least a workaround?

Can confirm, that this is still happening.

Still happening in Oct 25. My use case is a HA automation to start playing a Spotify playlist on a Sonos speaker, it starts playing and does indeed work its way through the playlist but the “now playing” title/album art never change in MA and the time elapsed just keeps incrementing as if it were one chungus song. If I pause/hit next it behaves as if it were still playing the first song and loses track of where it actually was.

Super annoying as I use it to play my discover weekly playlist so whenever a song catches my ear and I want to save it I’ve basically got no way of knowing what’s actually playing without pulling out Shazam on my phone. Really hoping this gets fixed!

Same issue with me, Sonos speakers and Apple Music

Same here.

I start playing a playlist via the Spotify provider on my IKEA Symfonisk speakers (Sonos under the hood).
The playlist starts playing and the songs of the playlist are playing normally one after the other.

Problem is that the “now playing” never updates; not in Music Assistant itself, not in the media players on Home Assistant dashboards and not on the iOS lock screen.

Help would be much appreciated.

This is a pretty major issue. Doesn’t it affect all people?

I also noticed another thing - let’s say I start the queue, it plays e.g. 4 songs, now is playing 5th. When I hit next track, it starts from the beginning…

I’m playing songs from SMB share.
