Please educate me – how to improve time to create a snapshot

For those who know the answer to my question it might be stupid but I ask it anyway. Because I do not understand how the snapshot is created I wonder why it takes quite a long time.

My best guess is that the reason is some kind of data compression – am I totally lost here? My snapshot size is around 300 MB and if my sensor of Influx database size is around 600 MB, something needs to be done to fit it to the snapshot (or the sensor is not correct)

I have an entry level Celeron NUC (NUC7CJYH) and HA NUC image. To create a snapshot takes around 17 minutes. From all the other aspect this NUC is for me more than adequate but I would like to get the snapshot done in less time.

I sure understand one way is to decrease the size of snapshot but if that is not a option does it mean the only option is more horsepower to the processor? Let’s say I move to NUC8i7 model – any rough estimate how long would it take to create this very same snapshot?

Anything else?

FWIW, that’s definitely not related to “horsepower”, on my i3-7100U NUC it takes roughly 15 mins to create a full VM backup of around 25 GB to a separate NAS.

Thanks for a very quick answer! Answer which made me even more curious

So what might be the reason for my 17 minutes snapshot?

Tbh I have no clue, not using Home Assistant OS in production. Maybe you can optimize the snapshot and not include everything.

But why is this a problem? Just let it run automatically some time when you are sleeping anyway.

Thanks again!

It is not a big problem - sometimes I do a snapshot for a reason manually …

Another thing is this “educate” - I have been wondering why it takes all that time, I would like to know the reason for that.
