I’m currently trying to extend my HA setup with some sun protection for a few windows.
I have asked several companies if they could provide me with a solution that does not include proprietary hardware or protocols like for example Somfy does. But I’m pretty much hitting a wall here. Most of them don’t even know what home automation is or how far you can go with systems like homeassistant.
The best answer (I think) was, that they could provide me the blinds with default (dumb) motors and I’d have to get the appropiate radio controllers.
What I’d like to accomplish is controlling the blinds with z-wave (Home Assistant Connect from Nabu Casa) or zigbee (a poe antenna who’s name i forgot) since this is my existing radio infrastructure which I don’t want to expand with another protocol or antenna. I really don’t want to buy an additonal device from company XYZ either, just to be able to automate the blinds with features that I could probably do natively in home assistant. This would also create a dependency on that company that I’m not really fond of.
So the question is: Did any1 of you guys travelled this road before? Is it even possible to get native zigbee or z-wave controllers that I can use to control the default motors from pleated and vertical blinds that would normally be controlled from wired switches, without having to buy additional and expensive devices? (the blinds and motors are expensive enough…)
I’ve seen Zenismart before which appears to go into that direction, but these appear to be motors with the radio controller integrated. Looking at their website, I wouldn’t even know what to order there, how to add them to the blinds or if they are quiet/of good quality.
