Pool Thermostat - my findings

Homeassistant Pool Thermometer - my experience so far

I have been looking for a pool thermoeter that wont break the bank - I bought 3 from amazon to test:

- Raddy PT-5 WIFI $40ish amazon $39.99 - couldnt make it work with HASS

  • made by Raddy but works with tuya app (BUT no lan access, which means no Homeassistant, even if using the HACS LanTuya integration)
  • main hub has a bak lid screen that displays both pool and indoor temp and huminidity
  • rechargeable through usb C (both hub and device)
  • solar panel on device (saw in youtube a guy claiming it lasted well over a month - havent tested but will update if I keep it)

- Govee WIFI H5109 amazon $38.99 - couldnt make it work with HASS

  • made by govee, works with govee app, used the Govee-2-mqtt, without success
  • the hub is just a dongle that connects to the wall, no info, but extends the range of reading (as if your pool is far from the router, it acts as man in the middle and extend the range)
  • no solar panel in device, but very simple display at top
  • app shows lots of info, but then, you need the app and no LAN support or MQTT either

Firelex WIFI from Inkbird amazon $45.99 - couldnt make it work with HASS

  • it uses Inkbird app, which is very similar to tuya, however, still not showing in homeassistant.
  • no solar and very simple display at top with a shark (kiddos loved it!)

I’ll share more as I find info about it or if I get them to work
Anybody that had these working or figured out, please let me/community know.

I’m currently using this one because it works nicely through the Ambient Weather Local integration through my weather station - and because it was the only one I could find at the time (got it cheaper than the $69.99 shown below almost 4 years ago):

As the batteries are non-replaceable, I’ll get something different as soon as it runs out of juice - your suggestions sound interesting :+1:

Please keep us posted on the progress.

I’ve been using the Ecowitt for a number of years. Pair it with their gateway and integrate it into HA.

I put it in my skimmer which is at the back of my property and the signal reaches the gateway in my basement at the front of my house. I’m surprised it works but it does.

I also see that they released another one too so you have options.

replying back to me, not to bombard you guys with replies… I did reach out to Raddy through their support contact web form. They responded surprisingly FAST! no access yet… but seems they may look into it. Maybe future products.

Hello xxxzzz,

Thanks for reaching out to Raddy Support! I am xxxxx and I’m happy to assist you with this.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you like the device.

We understand that many users integrate devices with Home Assistant for local automation and notifications. Currently, the PT-5 is controlled via the Tuya Smart App and Tuya Cloud Service, and its main functions are designed to be compatible with this ecosystem.

Regarding Tuya Local control, this feature depends on the firmware and platform configuration provided by the Tuya system. Currently, there is no official support for a Tuya Local control interface for direct integration with Home Assistant for the PT-5.

Nevertheless, we greatly appreciate your suggestion. We will forward your feedback to the product team for evaluation, as many advanced users are looking for local integration support.

Thank you again for your detailed feedback and for taking the time to share your thoughts. Please feel free to let us know if you have any further questions or suggestions.

Cheers,
xxxxxx

Ecowitt WN36 $23.99 - I couldn’t find it within amazon (yet), seems they have several other products, maybe within a couple of weeks they would offer it!? we shall see.

This seems like a GREAT solution, does NOT use Wi-Fi resources from thermometer to gateway, giving it plenty of range BUT a the same time…gateway… nothing wrong, just a heads up for those allergic to gateways, like me (lol)

I should of started with - Our wonderful integrations page which has a couple of options, however, a little pricey when compared with the options we are listing here also, some of these are more comprehensive with chemicals and other data/sensors/readers.

Most thanks to both @GavinCampbell & @chairstacker for responding so quickly… I’ll try to keep the post alive with updates as I test some of these (some of my local friends are jumping in and buying some, so I don’t take the whole hit$$)

You could also use a RF receiver on your Home Assistant to read the signals fro the ecowitt sensors as well. I did this at first. Worked great. But just much easier with their little gateway so I recommend going that way. Its not that big.

Hi,
I’ve used Inkbird IBS-P02B but it has constant connection issues and it eats AAA batteries for breakfast. After changing batteries every 2-4 weeks, it is not guaranteed that I can connect the device back again.

Remove batteries, try again. Today I got it to connect after 5 times…

I preferred the old model, P01B, but it broke and I haven’t found it being sold anywhere except in shady chinese online stores. P01B also had very flimsy cabling, the unit started leaking etc. so an alternative would be great.

Reporting back

Got the Broadlink RM4 Pro from amazon $35.99 (promo!)

After 2 hours of messing around with setting it up and finally got the device to add to the app by using the AP mode (it has a smart mode that recognizes the device, however, not sure why but it wouldn’t pass the Wi-Fi setup, hence defaulted to AP setup)

I tried adding the pool thermometer Raddi PT5, but it seems I need to have the device at hand, etc. Ill play with it tomorrow and report back…
