i would like to track the power consumption for such devices and was thinking to just add a zigbee power plug to those devices. Those mains plugs usually act as router.
My question is, would this make the zigbee network possibly instable when routers appear/disappear? I’ve read, that devices change their routes dynamically according to LQ strength but some don’t which might lead to problems?
If so, is there maybe a way to disable router functionality for those devices? ChatGPT says no … but he told me wrong things a couple times
According to this posts router function indeed cannot be disabled :
In the list of non router mains devices I can’t see any power plug
It’s correct that it is not great to have router devices connect and disconnect. One solution could be to check if you have zigbee outlets (the outlet mounted in the wall, not a plug) available where you live and replace your outlet with those.
But the vac vor example os not always connected to the same socket, so tracking the power consumption for this dedicated device is not possible in this scenario.
If you don’t want to stress your network, use another protocol like wifi, Bluetooth or z-wave. I know most of these would require additional dongles, so wifi is a good way to go. There are some cheap options available like athome.tech which have worked flawlessly for me for a couple of years now.
Z-wave is a mesh network too, so that will not work either, but WiFi and BT is good suggestions.
It could be something like this: SONOFF iPlug Wi-Fi Smart Plug | S60 Series
More specific products would require you to give up your location in the world.
