Prerequisites for Alexa Media Player

Can I ask if a Nabu Casa subscription is a necessary prerequisite for installing and using Alexa media player? I’ve watched a lot of tutorials on YouTube and read the installation wiki but unless I have missed it it doesn’t mention a Nabu Casa subscription for it to work. There may be an assumption but its not helpful for newbies like myself who are learning HA from scratch.
Thanks

No it is not required.

Be aware that most tutorials and videos about AMP are going to be rather old in HA terms… and they may not reflect the most current practices, so it’s best to check the AMP Wiki. While it has not been abandoned, AMP is kind of in a “maintenance” mode.

Unless you need to trigger Alexa routines (and maybe a couple of other niche functions), you will likely be better served using the core integration Alexa Devices instead of Alexa Media Player.

At the time of this post (2025/10/9) Amazon has recently modified their API and neither AMP nor AD are working properly for many users.

thanks @Didgeridrew . I have a feeling then that I did not complete the initial configuration correctly. At the last step a screen asked if an authorisation code worked correctly and I did not know where to check as it wasn’t in the instructions. I am trying to get back to the settings to go through the setup again but cannot find where to access the original fields like email, password amazon 2fa etc. Where can I find these settings please?
